At least the first one's not orange.

I went bird shooting with my camera again yesterday. The first bird is a yellow wagtail. These come in several varieties, this one is the middle eastern variety.

This is a teal. A very common bird in Europe but less common here, where it winters.

Superb pics, Adrian, especially the first one! While you're so damn good with the feathered variety, I'm sure you're aware that the non-feathered variety can be a little more exciting!

Hi Chip,

The camera is the new Nikon D200 and this was my first effort with a new Nikon 300mm 2.8 VR and a TC20EII 2 X converter. Both pictures were taken resting the lens on my car window. The wagtail was quite close but the teal was about 100yds away.

The converter turns the lens into a 600mm but you lose two stops and maximum aperture becomes 5.6. Auto focus and vibration reduction still operate but I find it best to manual focus before pressing the button to auto focus, this stops the lens hunting for the subject. Another downside is the weight...................it's almost 3 kilos!! Never mind, I'll just have to go to the gym more often.

Hey Adrian,

With your obvious knowledge and skills with the camera, why don't you post us some really gorgeous close ups of your watches? I would specially like to see Brenda's beautiful TT DJ with that MOP dial and Romans in a real close up shot.

Thanks - JJ

Sorry guys, I don't have a macro lens for the new camera yet. I had one with the old camera but the fittings are different.

I may get one when I get home in August so you are going to have to be patient.

For the moment here's an old picture.

WOW! That is one of the most elegant and beautiful dials I've seen on a lady's watch - stunningly stunning and yet quite subtle.
That pic is hardly doing the watch 10% justice....a good macro shot would bring out more of its beauty!!
