My Rolex went through an X-Ray. Any worries?

I had to go to court today to pick up some documentation. They had me put my Submariner, belt, and keys in a bucket to put through what I believe was an X-Ray scanner.

After the fact, I remembered reading something about this possibly magnetizing the watch.

Anyone have any experience with this?

It uses xrays, not magnets. So no.

Nope. You are thinking of exposure to an MRI.

No concerns at all regarding an X-ray.

Oh OK. I’m not sure what I was thinking of. So basically at courts and airports there are no concerns with the scanners and detectors they use?

No, but your best bet is to not take it off at all because of theft. It usually won't set off the metal detector.

Correct, no need to worry

This thread should be titled, "Can I wear my Rolex through an x-ray machine?"

(P.S., yes, you can).

That's a metal detector, not an x-ray. But still no worries.

No problem. However, I travel often and use casebodi for my watches which I place safely in my bag when going through security. I have seen many pile ups of trays falling of the belts.

I've gone through X-ray machines (the stand-up, full body scans) wearing my 1601 & have had no issues. I would be more nervous to take it off my wrist (have never done this at any airport on Planet Earth) and put it through the conveyor belt machine with a slack-jawed, sticky-fingered team of TSA "employees."

I'm quite the opposite. I'd rather discretely tuck it into the recesses of my bag and send it through the x-ray machine at the airport (eyeing it like a hawk obviously, but there are cameras EVERYWHERE so wouldn't expect that many foolish people to steal at a security check), than wear it and have a TSA agent tell me to take it off and put it wide open into a tray where everyone can see it.

Provided you are permitted to keep it on. I have been at some airports where they insist it goes through the detector - often not negotiable.

What about the metal detectors at airports?

Read on here people wouldn't take them off, what's the general view?

Can they damage the watch if kept on?

People don’t want to take them off so they don’t get stolen. A magnetometer won’t do any damage to your watch. I usually discreetly tuck my watch in my bag prior to going through. Then I’m eagle eyed watching my bag. Haven’t had any issues thus far. If the magnetometer is set low then your watch will definitely set it off and now you have to make a production of taking it off and putting it though the machine. I just slip it in the bag and avoid the hassle
