The occasional FP Journe fanboy thread

Thought I'd kick off a thread about my favourite indie watch brand with a (slightly odd in terms of commentary) documentary. Some interesting industry players pop up in this.

Hope you enjoy...

What's next for Mr. Journe?

http://watchesbysjx.com/2016/04/five...-p-journe.html

Quote:
On the subject of complications, Journe reveals a tantalising hint of what he is working on. Having worked on it for a decade, he is almost ready with a completely new wristwatch that will be for those who “love astronomy”. This will be the first F.P. Journe movement with such a function, and it will even feature other complications. The resulting watch will be similar in size to the grande sonnerie, but like the Sonnerie Souverain it will be uncomplicated to use, with everything set via the crown. Iff all goes well, it will make its debut in January next year.

But that’s not all. Beyond the aesthetic tweaks to the Journe design, the Marseille-born watchmaker also lets on he is working on revamping many of his landmark watches. That includes a successor for the well loved tourbillon with constant force mechanism, which he suggests will be “exactly the same but also completely different”.

Why don't more companies make their movements out of solid 18k rose gold. The alloy FPJ uses is harder than you'd expect and it's a known alloy.

It looks spectacular in person.

It certainly does. Here's my best effort to capture what the movement looks like on my Octa Reserve de Marche. Even the rotor gets spectacular decoration.

I love the CB, the others are interesting though not for me, but design wise quite original, but all the movements are really awesome

FPJ invested in a high-speed camera, just to check that the day, date and month all changed together at the same instant on his lovely Quantieme Perpetuelle. If I had enough money, I'd definitely buy one, and I am currently saving. The problem is I want a CB as well, and a Tourbillon.... and several others!

The occasional FP Journe fanboy thread

I have never been a huge fan of the style of FPJ watches.. But adore how he thinks and the special care and craftsmanship that goes into each piece. I'm so in awe that now I'm hungry for this brand.

This is why my last 3 were from an independent brand (Dornblüth). The kind of attention to detail is amazing and this is why I can't bring myself to buy anything from the big mass produced manufacturers.. No matter how high end they are.

I have a chronometre bleu and an Octareserve de marche and am pretty pleased so far. Would love to see a centigraphe with a blue dial, white subs, and tantalum case!

CB's older

The hands may not be to everyones liking but the raised numerals are beautiful on a solid gold dial i believe and one of my favourite dress watches...may stick a honey coloured strap on to see how it changes the look

I recently added a CB into the fold...of all my watches, it is by far the one I'm planning on passing down to future generations. The workmanship of the movement and the depth of the dial are exquisite.

That's really lovely.

Just got back after a trip abroad, and changing back into my Octa RDM feels like coming home, despite only having owned it for a month. It's easily my favourite watch.

Love FPJ. Very unique and whimsical designs that cannot be found anywhere else. FPJ is one of the few companies where the dials are equally as unique as the movements.

I was wondering if anyone can explain the seriel numbers...my CB was a 950 so thats easy enough to understand...but my CS has 2-183. I guess that would be 2183 or dont they use sequential numbering?

^I always thought (guessing) it was because it was the gold dial vs the original dial and therefore the 2nd series. (I have the same watch so it wasn't just me thinking about random serial numbers I swear lol)

I must admit I´ve become a fan lately.

Have not pulled the trigger (yet ) though.

I would choose platinum, but that's stunning either way. Not a lot of point in showing you my plat Octa, but some good pics at the FPJ website.

Impossible to go wrong with such a beautifully-designed and crafted piece of art. Are you near a boutique?

I am a fan on some of their models, but we need to recognize he doesn't walk on water!! I was watching one of his interviews on the sonnierie and how happy he was that so few were returned for not working as expected. Considering how few he makes that sounds a bit concerning!
