A very special watch, not for what it is, but for the story that surrounds it. Wear it in good health for many many more years.

Great Story! I feel the same about the GMT2 I originally purchased in 1992 for 3K. It would be hard enough to part with that I might be the only guy on skid row with 10K Rolex.:)

I had a white one around the same time that came from a Cayman Islands dealer, could have sworn its MSRP was $5300. Alas I sold it a year later to fund an 116520 which is long gone too.
Your's is beautiful.

Since you asked....place beer (or soda) in hand. Take Daytona and place face down on knuckle with the 8 o’clock under beer bottle cap. Use top knuckle as lever while pushing down on the case with most pressure at 2 o’clock of upside down case. The case back is curved so it virtually hooks under the teeth of the bootle cap. Forgive the one handed picture...

You just made some people lose their minds. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth over this. Abuse!

“Is it safe to open a beer with your Rolex?”

Bravo!

Great story but I’d rather use my teeth then a 30k plus watch as a bottle opener lol. Ok well at least something else

I found when I use the Platona to open bottles people tend to lose their minds. Even I was surprised how the grooves of the bottle cap sink into platinum.

Just a spectacular story! The best of times and the worst of times. I couldn’t use the watch as a bottle opener, it made me cringe a bit. I’ll live vicariously through you for that part.

Want to make a bet. You would be surprised at the things one does given the circumstances...necessity is the mother of all invention ;) All in good times...

Amazing backstory,

Beautiful watch worn and lived as it should be. A refreshing thread for once.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy many more years with it on the wrist and not on a winder!

Best regards
