My question for something like this is, why comment? Twice? If you don’t like it, okay, move on.

Nice tattoos in this thread. Most, if not all of my friends have them. It's not my thing, but I can appreciate the art!

I was never really a tattoo guy but I did get one in my mid 30's. My best friend had a few and he was always trying talk me into one. When he died in an auto accident in 1998 I decided to get a tattoo on my back shoulder in his honor (it's the Chinese symbol of friendship surrounded by a sun)

For me one is enough and I've never thought of adding others. In retrospect though I wish I'd placed it where it's more easily seen by others.

I am thankful enough to own my own business. It also happens to be in the art world so my tattoos are even more welcome here than others!

I’ve always been a bit rebellious so once I decided on my career and stuck there I decided to put them on my hands for that very reason so they were always visible:)

It may be an age thing -I’m 58 and I don't like them, yet I always enjoy looking at these threads.
I can see some of them are artistic/quality work - but just as many are beyond awful.

It is interesting to note how they have become more acceptable on hands and necks etc.

A young man I see regularly has virtually a blue face, with what looks like homemade work. It’s probably my age but I think in that instance it’s sad and like many I judge him – and not in a good way. I may be in the minority on this thread!

I’m sure perceptions vary according to business cultures, but I once had a division president of a major corporation tell me :

“Every visible tattoo is a rung out of the ladder of life.”

Being in the corporate/industrial sales world, I tend to agree.

Not for me - have enough life-scars already and not interested in attempting to cover them up or adding to them.

Can certainly appreciate the artwork of many though and do enjoy the occasional bit of shows like Ink Master.

Must also say - the (repeated) trolling attempts have been handled very positively in this thread.

I have plenty of tattoos, and would post pics if I could ever figure out how.

At this stage of my life I do not concern myself with what others think, BUT, when I attend a meeting with a new client I always wear clothing which conceals my artwork. Not that I am embarrassed, but I know that first impressions are lasting and that some people are not as open minded as others.

Personally I don't care if people do body modification although like I said I don't like my mistakes to be permanent. And by that I mean, since you can never get just one, you get more and more and when I'd covered damn near everything, I'd get bored with it and want something different.

I got a few piercings at one time and my motivation was rite of passage. I had a serious medical thing happen.

Our society doesn't have rites of passage for males and that's often why males are lost in their teen years and flounder until mid twenties or so. The military used to be a rite of passage and men got tattoos for that and during the 1980s I started seeing models getting mini tattoos of butterflies and hearts and stuff. I asked one of them why this was happening and she said it was due to the fact that as a model you went to a shoot, no makeup, no hair done and they basically took over your body and made it into something they wanted to use that day. So the girls felt the need to do something to take ownership of their bodies. Once models made it ok then lots and lot of women started to see it as a cool thing to do, and gradually the tramp stamp label disappeared to some extent.

So some tattoos I find great and some not so much. I've seen some incredible ones and in the 80s in LA there was a famous body piercer who got folded angel wings on the entirety of her back and it was the first non Asian work I'd really seen and it was pretty magnificent.

So I doubt the sky is falling and the end times are here, just people expressing themselves.

No dude it's wouldn't be if the OP started the thread with a statement like "tattoos love them or hate them"?

Your first post was obviously a passive aggressive comment more or less a "Kilroy was Here" statement. If that was your only input then fine but you keep painting with the same brush over and over with no real purpose. Like I'm sure you'll respond to this post unless you can exhibit new found self control. That's what trolling looks like.

is it true that a baby when born can have some sort of mark on their skin in a similar area to where the mother or father has a large tattoo, something about the dna struture being damged by the tattoo.
