Best $140 I ever spent. Should have gotten one a long time ago.
Spins counter clockwise for 2 minutes. Then rests 6 minutes. Spins clockwise for 2 minutes. Rests 6 minutes. Repeats.

I am really confused why people use watch winders. watches have parts. parts would seemingly wear quicker when the watch is continually in use. Why not just set the watch and wind it when you wear it?

Its better for the movement to always be in use rather than sitting in a safe for months then being wound up for a day or two then sitting again. Keeps the oil moving around. Plus you wont worry about setting the time if you didnt wear it for a week or two not to mention the crown being unscrewed and screwed back on for winding every time you do wear it.

So don't wear them? Same principle. A watch winder moves a watch around less than you would wearing it in your wrist, assuming you're at least moderately active.

Nice winder.
And if you’re really feeling like treating yourself, take a look at this. https://www.smythson.com/int/smoke-g...x-1021872.html And the good news is that it’s only £2995 ($US3815). The leather and hand working in amazing. And they’re so quiet. |

Don't you guys put your watches in a safe when not wearing them? Can't imaging leaving them out in a winder unattended.

Not an issue for me as I don't live in a shopping mall with lots of foot traffic across my bedroom

A safe is for suckers. Safes are good for important documents and 'bait' if/when you get home invaded.

I won’t claim to know a lot about winders, but I’ve heard the more inexpensive can actually magnetize watches. Not sure if that’s fake news but might want to look into it. Otherwise, seems like a great buy.

Why I have most of my watches in the bank vault. Still have an 1,000lb safe in the garage and a 500lb one bolted in the master bedroom floor for the daily watches and other unmentionables.

Whilst I have an 8 watch winder, it’s turned off. I turn it on once a month for a day. The only situation where a winder is necessary rather than expedient is with perpetual Calendars. With modern lubricants, a winder is more appropriate than in years gone by. Regards |

I do not really understand these winder stuff.
It ages my watches and moreover I enjoy taking the time to set my watches. Just like winding them :) |

I can imagine a watch on a winder is like a car continuously running on idle. Is that even advisable?

If the winder, they don’t run all the time. I don’t know how this one works but mine is programmable for turns/day and direction of rotation. Most of the time the rotor is stationary. If the watch, if you own just one and wear it regularly, it does run all the time. It may need service marginally sooner than one that gets some rest but it’s so minor that it’s not a real issue. |

Think opinion is split but from my understanding on here from those that fix these things is that the continual running is marginally better than stop starting and results in slightly less wear on the crown too. Additionally some of us are lazy and want to grab and go rather than wind and set regularly. Personally I have 2 main watches and use these on a 5 & 2 day rotation so this fits my use. |
