Christmas Lights.

Christmas Lights.

First I have nothing against Christmas in general, but now its so totally
commercialised and totally lost the real plot.I was over my sons a week last Saturday, and there was a chap putting up his Christmas lights. And this Saturday
Now this is just fecking silly - there are now 2, yes 2 houses within 500 yards of him, that have huge Christmas lights up - it was not even November then FFS. And these cretins have flashing Santa's saying "Ho-ho-ho. Merry Christmas"on them.Even before a Celtic originally, but just another now over commercialised Americanised thing they call Halloween.
.
No its to bloody early, you fools. We have not even celebrated the anniversary of some fella wanting to blow up The Houses Of Parliament yet,Nov 5th and there you are thinking it's bloody Christmas, its not.....

I mean the clocks have just gone back, and there they were with their stupid flashy lights, thinking they were the fecking mutts nuts. Because they'd got theirs first, - but no - they look stupid. And easily led by the rampant consumerism that is the commercialisation of Christmas - yes - what better way to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Than to decorate the exterior of your house in rope lights and inflatable 8FT snowmen you muppets!
Its about time we all got back to the real meaning of Christmas. Its now
got so over commercialised now, that its now just one big money spinner
and very very expensive time for young families with children.

Peter, unfortunately because there's so much commercially hanging on Christmas, we're past the point of no return. I'm not religious and yet we still celebrate it (the gift giving), particularly with my daughter.

It's lost its meaning completely.

As for people putting up lights... this is usually the best time to put them up, when you can access your roof without slipping on ice or snow. However, even if you put them up, DON'T TURN THEM ON UNTIL DECEMBER!!!!!

Even worse is the people who leave them up all year long. I have neighbors who have those FUGLY 'icicle lights' hanging the length of their house all year long. Morons...

Thats fine and very sensible,if you live in that sort of climate, and agree
switch the lights on in December .

I'll take a bunch of pics this year, but you should see my in-laws house. My MIL started decorating about three months ago. Every single room in this 5K + house has it's own theme. Now here is the kicker, starting the day after Thanksgiving, until two days before Christmas, she will give over forty tours to various charities, all free of course.

She also gives all the people, mostly kids, a bag with candy and cookies. Totally done out of the kindness of their hearts, they really get what Christmas is all about.

My FIL also has the entire upstairs filled with a train layout that would make most stores feel jealous. I was just looking at the latest changes last night, WOW!!

So I do agree that it is over done, but in their case, they wait all year to make others happy with their house and the true spirit of Christmas.

Your inlaws are freaks.

Seriously though.. nice to see them give back to the community. I have a buddy who has spent the past 15 Christmas mornings driving around to missions and volunteering, and also stopping homeless people to give them coffee and donuts.

There is a stereotype for this, I won't touch it.

We went into a card shop on Saturday to buy a birthday card for our daughter-in-law. The shop had an entire rack of Christmas cards up already.

I pretty much dislike Christmas anyway (it's not my holiday) and I cringe when I have to listen to Christmas songs on the radio no matter what station I tune to. When I hear that chipmunk song, I just want to put my fist through the radio.

This is my first year with XM satellite radio. I'm hoping I can avoid that drivel on at least some of the stations.

Whatever happened to the real meaning of Christmas. Daren, sounds like your in-laws are the only people who still have the real spirit. Kudos to them.
