Anyone else had the flu this season?

I have been almost totally horizontal since last Tuesday afternoon! Finally feeling better tonight. Wretched stuff!

But thankful for medicines we have available to us these days. Clariton works wonders and Alka-Seltzer Cold is great!

Yep. Caught it in Korea over Christmas. Awful. Spent two days in bed shivering. Effective weight loss program though I wouldn't recommend it.

I got the flu shot when I returned to Japan as there a few strains this year. Classic closing the barn door after the horse is out.

I did fall victim in December of some new nefarious bug which knocked me down for a couple of weeks. I had never felt so bad before, and I had been vaccinated against flu. I think these evil bugs have mutated and are now worse than ever.

The area I live in is so bad for pollens and fungus and allergens and smoke from burning sugarcane fields and spores of all kinds it is near impossible to tell flu from just normal.

Got it for about 24 hrs this winter. No fun at all! I'm surprised it lasted that long. The only thing that survives in my blood stream is alcohol lol

Unfortunately yes! Consider myself healthy and get a flu shot every year. We had a ton of air stagnation in my region this winter and I caught a sinus infection which lasted for weeks and somewhere in the middle of that got the flu too. First time I have called in sick to work in like 15 years. Pretty bad stuff. Being sick combined with not seeing the Sun for weeks leads to poor energy levels and overall feeling for me.
I live in the region where the Hanford Superfund site is close by, so I always blame being sick on Hanford nuclear waste...

Hadn't caught a cold or flu in years. .. Until three weeks ago. Began with a sore throat then a nasty fever (40++) on the first day. Temperature came down with antipyretics but stayed high for three days or so. Felt terrible for more than a week. This thing was easily the nastiest since college...

My experience as well. They never know for sure what strain to put in the vaccine, so I chalk it up to luck more than anything else that I haven't gotten sick. But at least it offers protection against some the strains circulating. I do know it offers no protection against stomach flu, only respiratory.

Yep, just getting back to normal. Was out of commission for 8 days. I had the flu vaccination last fall, and tested negative for A & B when I went to the PCP. They were convinced it was the flu, though, so it was likely a different strain. I was out of work for an entire week, and just getting off the couch felt like summiting Everest.

I work in healthcare--went back to clinic today and found out there are a ton of folks currently out with flu (and a couple with pneumonia)...really bad season here in FL.

I get a flu shot every year so it's been over a decade since I got nailed.

But the last 3 weeks have been absolutely brutal for me as I m fighting a downright nasty sinus infection that I figure I caught on a flight from Chicago while coming back home.

Missed the flu shot this year and I caught the flu... First time I catch it and I hope it is the last.

I knew I was in trouble when my eyeballs began to hurt.

I got about a 30 hour version of the flu right before the end of the year. I hadn't been that sick in probably 20 years (I'm 30 now) and I honesty didn't realize I could get that sick! I feel your pain, guys.

My story: I always get my flu shot, never had a problem for at least a decade.

Well, yesterday I was slammed.
On awakening, I had a frontal headache on a scale of 0-10, was a wollaping 20! My eyes felt like they were going to explode out of my head. I barely had balance. Thought it was a migraine headache, took tylenol, and that's when I felt a revolution starting in the ole belly. It evolved into a day of wretched heaving to the point I began to worry about possible tears in the esophageal mucosa. I couldn't take anything for the headache which with each projectile emesis created so much pressure in my head, I thought: brain aneurysm? Added to that misery, interchangeable bone cold shivering and unbearable hot sensations.

I was so concerned, I thought I'd have to call my neighbor to take me to the ER.
Tummy settled by 10pm enough to tolerate water and some gingerale. But only able to sleep after taking tylenol about midnight.
This morning still have medium headache, coffee is helping.

If anybody had the same symptoms, please post, especially if you know the name of this particular strain. My experience was very scary.

Blessings, DM

I have been on my back for the last day and 1/2. I get the flu shot every year and this is the first time, in a long time getting caught with the flu. Feeling better today but yesterday was really bad. Hope everyone feels better soon.

Yesterday I went to work feeling fine. Went to the gym and a little into my workout I felt funny.

Got in the car to drive home and I prayed I would make it. Upon getting home I had real bad diarrhea and zero appetite.

Then a few hours later the vomiting started. At one point I was sitting on the toilet with a bucket on my lap. Not fun.

I was so uncomfortable I barely slept until I had a glass of ginger ale. I too was so worried about dehydration that I thought I should go to the er.

I basically had the same as you without the headache. I am drinking fluids and going to try some toast.

Also I did get a flu shot.
