Yes, they sell them at MSRP. At least in the US they do. I've heard that they sell them at a mark-up in other parts of the world.

As always, subjective. I had the opposite reaction: Black = stunning, white = very nice, but not stunning (better in pics).

The hysteria for the white dial (hence higher demand) is primarily rooted in the mostly imagined association to a panda-dialed Daytona (which it is not).

Both awesome designs, and you can't go wrong. Get the one that sings to YOU.

I too think the white is harder to source, especially at AD's. I was offered a black one and am quite pleased with it. I won't be buying a white, I don't need or want 2.

I agree with you on both points.

I have always preferred the white on Daytonas. Unfortunately, those are the ones that are harder to source

I agree with many the white is the way to go on the D500 it's just has better contrast and more unique. Even several ADs of ive been too agree the white is the nicer looking of the 2. They both are great and you'd be lucky to have either. When I win the lotto I wouldn't mind adding the black someday.

White is harder to get / more expensive on grey market.

They are either definitely producing less white dials or people that receive white dials perhaps tend to keep them more than the black. It's the catalog DaytonaC and the one in all the promo materials. In my opinion it's the one to have. I've come across a lot more black dials and for much less than white. Black dials have been sold for as low as $15k (maybe a couple hundred less) while the lowest white dials go for is about $16.5k with most people asking anywhere from $17.5-18k. Can be more depending on location.

I think Rolex production is 60/40 black/white. That's just a guess of course. I could be very wrong but I think a quick look on chrono24 makes a good case for this. About 2 blacks for every white. 171 black and just 79 white. A couple are custom 116520s but it's still very clear. I don't care if it takes me 5 years to get my hands on a white DaytonaC for retail. It will be worth the wait.

White is gorgeous and the one to have. But if given the opportunity, I would get the black as well as you can't go wrong with either one.

I think white is currently more desirable for the D500 (and non-AD market pricing reflects it), I also think that was the case for the 520 unless I'm mistaken. I think that Rolex predominantly has made and makes black dialed watches for the sports lineup, where the white dial is a refreshing change of pace and on the beautiful Daytona design.

Currently have the black dial and love it, but I'd consider adding a white dial down the road as it would be nice since both my watches are black dials right now. I might actually go for a pre-owned 520 white dial as I find that variant unique in-between the 16520 and 116500 white dials with the silver subdials.

Both are extremely hard to get but I think the black dial is a bit easier.

rolex probably makes 50/50% of white and black, but the higher desirability of the white is making the white harder to get
