Rolex 6536, what did they change in the service

Bought a Rolex 6536 with service paper, can a vintage specialist on here confirm what's still original and what's service and what was serviced !?

Thank you

Yes. A third of what it would be if it had been left alone. Search for these watches and you will see the difference in price between original and one with service parts.

Still a great watch! I'd wear it!

Hi Fella, I did a quick search and the following are some comments that I found that may be of interest,

Can't give too much history, I love the reference but continuity is tough with these, often there are replacement parts etc. As such, prices are very wide depending on the continuity. Parts for these are not cheap.

6536 is a rare bird in all original conditions

Even with service parts it looks good to me, can I ask what date its from ?

Well, let's start with what you paid for it. That should probably give you an idea of its value if the seller was honest about what he was selling.

By now it should be a dark brown and no longer lume except under UV light. Maybe it’s me but this lume looks to be green.

Shouldn’t the bezel triangle be red?

Have you ever had the case back off and looked at the condition of the movement?

early service dial, hands and bezel current watch value as is 15ishkusd
original gilt 6536/1 dial will cost 10-15kusd (if you can find)
original gilt 6536/1 hands will cost 3-5kusd (if you can find)
original red triangle bezel will cost 12-15k usd (if you can find)
its cheaper and easier to find a complete original watch very long journey to complete this project

Much more if it is a 6536 and not a 6536/1. If it is a 6536 then yes, dial is likely changed. If it is a 6536/1 dial could very well be original. Hands are changed and I wouldn’t be surprised if dial and hands are relumed. Insert of course from thr 70’s.

I’d buy red triangle inserts all day for 12-15k by the way. I am guessing you would need to pay double that.

I would be inclined to keep it and enjoy it as is......you obviously liked it enough to buy it so why not continue to enjoy? It is a fine watch with or without the service replacement parts and one that I would certainly liked to have in my small collection. Thanks for sharing.

I agree it's a nice-looking watch, objectively speaking.
But, if I felt that I was possibly taken advantage of, mislead about the components, and are now learning that it's far from original, for me, I don't think I could ever truly enjoy wearing it. In fact, I'd feel sick every time I looked at it.

A fair point, but would you sell it at a significant potential loss to stop you feeling sick? I guess there is no easy solution for the OP and at the end of the day only he can decide on the best way forward. I think though it is brave of hm to share his story.......we generally only ever hear about the upside of buying vintage with little reference to the potential risks. That said, I still think it is a good looking watch

It’s crazy the prices that vintage parts alone command these days...

If a good watch costs a lot it is kind of easy to understand good parts does the same. No? ;)

Just to confirm, is it a 6536 (6538 crossed out inside case back) or a 6536-1?
