Not sure why people are so resistant to suspect their watch was magnetized. How many people are repeating misinformation rather then their own experience?
I’ve had this issue with a watch. It went from loosing 1-2 seconds per day to gaining 15 seconds a day. Fairly steady. Everyone insisted this was not the issue. Demaging solved the problem. Nothing else was done to the watch. |

So true. Easy and inexpensive repair to a common issue yet we get the most push back.

It seems to me that a lot of people would just find the suggestion of magnetism too farfetched for them to consider.

Doesn't a magnetized watch tend to run fast? Both of ours are running slow.

They can run fast or slow depending on what items are magnetized and how they orient to the various other components.

Back from vacation, I wound it up 40 times, Saturday morning. As of today (Wednesday afternoon or 4.25 days) it's 10 seconds slow. I checked each day, it's a steady -2 seconds per day.
Close enough for me, it's just weird how it ran spot on for a few months, now it's 2 seconds slow a day. No biggie, not gonna send it in, Just thought I'd update my situation. |

Here's an update, some things have changed if anyone cares. :) I'm trying to keep it on this original thread, as it seemed to match my watch's issues.
Again, DJ41, new in June 2018. To recap, it ran at +0.3 spd for a few months after purchase, daily wear, no winding. Let it stop when I went on vacation in November. Came back and wound it up, then... It ran at -2 or -2.5 seconds per day for a few weeks (14 hrs daily wear, no winding). Then I reset the time, no winding. Then it ran at -.5 spd for a few days, then back to -2 spd or so (all of this pretty consistent, minus the drifting slow). Then it seemed to start losing more time each day, like 4 or 5 per day. I reset it again on the 29th and it like 12 seconds slow today, near 5-6 seconds per day slow. WTF is up with this watch? I'm going to get it damagnetized and see if it helps. I'm not resistant to a demag, just hard to get somewhere that can do it. I'll try to go to the AD I bought it from. Even at -5 spd, I'd be reluctant to send it in to get fiddled with. Seems so young to be deflowered. Question.. If I take it to my AD to get regulated (if a damag doesn't work) will they try to do it there, of will it be sent to Rolex for regulation under warranty? Thanks! Happy New Year! |

It's the erratic nature that seems weird.
I don't even like to take my car for an oil change at the dealer, so you can imagine how I feel about taking my new watch to the AD for regulation. Frightening. I was thinking...When I stored the watch when I was gone o vacation, it was stored within a foot of a fan motor, like the ones that run your kitchen stove exhaust hood. That might have done it. It's about the time when it started acting weird. I'll get it demagnetized I guess. Last edited by MikeyV; 1 January 2019 at 05:33 AM.. Reason: Added some thoughts... |

There's a reason why it takes 3000+ hours to obtain a proper watchmaking qualification. Take it to a watchmaker and have them put it on a timing machine to be analysed. There could be a whole host of potential issues that they are qualified to address. |

Eh, you're probably right.
It's now losing 7 seconds a day. I'll be taking it in. What can cause this sort of gradual slowing of the movement? Does anyone know if it will be sent to a RSC for adjustment, since it's in the warranty period? |

Likely just a lubrication issue. Should be sent off to RSC yes. Insist upon this.
