One and only? Royal Oak

Anyone else doing this? How is it going? Wishing you had something else?

Thinking about trading in the DaytonaC for a RO but would be my only piece and want to make sure I don’t set myself up for only work/date night wearing.

Thanks!!

I haven’t done this exactly but you can absolutely do it if you don’t need major depth rating. I wear my royal oak Chrono almost exclusively and it holds up just fine in all situations. I don’t wear a watch to the gym or while doing housework, but I regularly wear it in the pool and ocean. Perfectly fine in normal swimming.

Not the RO, but ROO. This is now my only watch*. There are some other watches that I like, but none at the moment I would prefer to wear everyday (the new black & red 42mm CE bezel ROO Chrono is the closest I’ve found to date)

I have a pretty casual approach to dress these days, so it’s sporty fit & feel work perfectly for me. In addition it will take everything I throw at it, whilst remaining incredibly comfy and easy to clean on the rubber strap.

I think you just need to ask yourself if you can see yourself wearing it each and every day, for work, rest and play.

For some reason I can’t reconcile having multiple watches in my ownership I don’t actually wear often, so one watch ownership works for me very well for the moment.

*N.B. not including my Casio sports watch for the gym.

Tried it with a black 15400 but just found it too dressy for causal wear, stunning watch but better as part of a collection IMO

Personally, as much as I love watches, I don’t think I can start a collection. I just have the 15450 and I have no plans of buying anything else anytime soon. The only reason why I’d buy something else (cheap) is that I can’t be not wearing a watch, I’ve worn one all day every day for at least 15 years. Feels weird not to. So I will need to figure something out for when I eventually need to have the RO serviced, but that’s probably 3-4 years away still so I’m good for now.

I really do think that the RO is the perfect every day watch. And I mean pretty much any of the variants, the classic, perpetual calendar, openworked, they’re all amazing. Even a ROO if you have the wrist size, even tho some people might not like it as much when wearing a suit…

AP, Lange, and Patek changed my perception on watch collection that could be summarized as follows: have a few phenomenal pieces that come with some sentimental value. Have been selling mine off with the idea to have only an AP, a Lange, and a Casio for daily wear.

Any pics with some more casual attire? No shortage of close wrist and cuff link shots.

Right now, I mostly rotate between the PP 5726 on rubber the 15400 also on rubber.

I’m pretty sure the 5726 might just be the watch I’ve been searching for for 25+ years.

So please take that into account when I say I appear to be wearing the AP more.

It is also on rubber but I’ve got the bracelet all wrapped up in case I want to switch it up.

What I’m trying to say is I believe I could wear this watch (ap) as a one and only for a long duration. It’s super versatile on rubber. And also super comfortable.

I honestly think I could do it with either.

Bad photo but this is what I’m wearing today, just a t-shirt and sweatpants.

I think rubber strap on the 15400 as mentioned above, could be a game changer for bridging the everyday wearability gap a highly polished bracelet may create for you.

It’s all down to personal taste and style though. I wear my diver with a suit and tux - albeit for fun occasions, not work, and have no issues sartorially doing so.

And likewise with a jumper for day to day wear this time of year.

On the list for the 15202IP - this has become my grail AP for sure! I previously wanted a skeleton, but the dial on the IP is out of this world!

Picked up my 14790 Royal Oak and haven't had it off my wrist since. My 5167 is a 40th birthday present to myself but I can genuinely see the RO being my favourite ever watch and get worn ALL of the time. I recently sold my Daytona 116520 to buy it and I've not missed the Daytona one bit.

You can wear the RO as a daily but you have to be comfortable with bezel scratches, on that basis I do have a D500 which I use more regularly as PCL marks don't bother me.

I have both the Daytona and the RO and feel the RO could easily become a one and only if thats what you like wearing. I wear it casually and dressed up and really just wear the watch I want to wear that day regardless of how dressy or casual the watch is deemed to be. Wear what you like, with what you like!

While I have not gone down to one watch, but if I can only keep one, I would keep my ROC

Have blro, skyD in rotation but I can live with just RO

I've gotten it down to a pre ceramic Daytona and a 44mm ROO ceramic. That's as close as I'll get to 1 watch, I think...

If I had to only go 1, though...I think i'd lose the AP and stick with the Daytona. *ducks for cover*

I've owned 4 ROs (15300, 15400, 26300 & 15202).

I wore the 26300 almost daily for more than a year, no issues.

Do it.

I would like to be a one watch guy but the variety is just too many, so I have a work watch which is a Tag Carerra on leather racing strap, 2 weekend watches being the AP in the pic, a large Pam Submersible on thick leather...and a Casio G shock which likely even a die hard one watch guy would own :-). If I had to down size it would be the AP and the G shock.

My first was a royal oak offshore rubber clad which I wore with probably six or seven other watches in rotation.

I then got a Royal Oak chronograph white face which I wore with a Rolex GMT Master ceramic as an alternating day-to-day piece.

I then went to a Royal oak perpetual calendar. This was my daily wear for almost 5 years. It has relatively poor water resistance of only 20 m but this was never a problem.

So, yes. You can wear one has your daily wear. Is absolutely a beautiful time piece.

Not my one and only but sure has been my daily wearer for the past 3 month since I unboxed it.

I have the 15202 and I absolutely love it, but I can't see having it as my one and only. The scratches on the bezel and bracelet that I have put on it over a 3-year period wearing 1-2 times/week would make it difficult for me to consider wearing it every day. I also think the highly polished bracelet makes it a little too dressy for every day casual (although I do wear my Jumbo with a polo shirt on occasion.

I would keep the Daytona and save up for the RO later.
