Sigh. One of the downsides of purchasing an OF model. It’s too bad because the OF bracelet is so incredibly comfortable. I had the official RSC here swap mine on my brand new 126655 a year ago and they put a ding in the same exact spot as yours. I still get nightmares about it.

What was the method of repair? Did they laser weld?

Glad to see it patched up, sorry to hear about your experience though.

Rolliworks is awesome short skip and a step from me in the South Bay. How long was the turnaround?

OUCH. Glad you got it fixed OP, AD should have paid for it, I would be livid. Rolliworks is great.

I see it now. Yes that can be distressful, especially considering the price point. $300 for a job well done is a steal. I am excited have them work on my 1601 bracelet.

Sorry to see this.

Rolliworks is such a great resource for such unfortunate situations. Even better if local. Not fun that you needed it though, but best to just get it taken care of. Please post some glory shots of this new piece!

This situation is why I think I’d prefer to do this at home myself. I will admit I haven’t done changes with PM yet, but I would be comfortable going for it on a PM OF.... PM bracelet on / off seems a bit intimidating

Ouch! Glad it got fixed. Such a nice watch. Good post for awareness.

IMHO The ADs need better training on the OF models. I was not even made aware of size differences upon purchase of a YM 42. It does fit to be fair but there was little to no knowledge demonstrated about the OF when I bought it.

Luckily it didn't amount to anything in my case but there is a lot to know about the OF once you start looking into it and it's way more than just a rubber strap.

Ugh, that sucks. Same thing happened to mine that I purchased in Spain and didn't realize until I got back to the USA. I didn't end up getting it fixed but might look into Rolliworks now since you're happy with the repair.

Wow so uncool .. but, looks back to flawless so all is well... and that specific spec of Daytona, one of my very favorites ... unbelievably cool

So question, I had to add 1 link to my skydweller .. 1 link to my jubilee GMT... my subs both 11 and 12 series fit fine with no links added and glide Lock somewhere in the middle or so

Anyway I’m sure the oysterflex when opened all the way up would probably still be alittle small for me with all that said, no? What’s the solution to this

You'd think these guys get some basic training on how to remove straps without damaging the lugs. Why not flip the watch and remove the end link from the back instead of the front? The wrong steel tool against a gold watch is a bad idea. Why not put some tape on the lugs and use the right tool for the job, like a Bergeon 6825 or equivalent? Do they do a botched job on purpose to stop people from flipping watches? I don't know what's going on.

OF is the most aggravating and troublesome item Rolex ever created, due to the damages incurred if/when it has to be removed for sizing.

Bad design. OF should have had LARGE notches at the spring-bars so access would be EASY and therefore eliminate damage. Especially for soft PM watches.

WHAT were they thinking -- that no one would ever need to change them?

Reading the various OF problem posts here and at WUS is good for warning people (me too) away from any OF purchase. Just my humble opinion.

Rolex could have done so much better here . . . .

That sucks that you have to pay $300 to have a OF changed. I've changed mine myself, and it's not exactly the easiest strap to change.

Do you know if they use the gold wire from Rolex, or if they used a RG link to get the gold from?

Can anyone show some pictures of the undersurface of the case where it meets the strap spring bar. Is it not easy to gain access to the spring bar ?

I didn’t get to watch but the guy who put the Oysterflex halves on my 116500 did so with no issues. I suspect simply taping up the lugs would prevent the all too common nicks but I guess the techs all think they’re too experienced to do that.
Glad you were able to make it look like new for a reasonable cost.

One of the main reasons I stayed away from oysterflex even when offered to purchase from my AD. I know the lugs will get damaged from putting it on.

Danny my AD sized mine with zero issues (also Bay Area). Sounds like some ADs are simply more experienced with it than others?

Was the standard Rolex rubber too short ? The reason you had it changed ?
