Reminds me of this time some girl driving an benz SLK years ago was complaining that our crew damaged her "KOMPRESSOR" I was dying of laughter inside. It took me a while to figure out she was referring to the car. She thought the emblem on the car kompressor (which means supercharged in German) was the make or model of the SLK. Seriously.

If anyone asks, I’ll just start telling them my watch is an Invicta knockoff.

There are a lot of Datejust options.

The thing is that the Datejusts are pretty flashy watches. The fluted bezel draws lots of attention whether the watch is SS or TT. The sports models, aside from the PM versions (specifically YG versions) aren’t as flashy. I also think that the Datejust has wider age range appeal.

While we instantly recognize and love the sports watches, most watch buyers do not. A GMT is much more likely to fly under the radar than a fluted Datejust. They are also more versatile compared to the sports watches. They are equally at home with casual attire or business attire. Yes the Sub can do both but a Datejust pairs better with a suit imo.

No Kompressor doesn’t mean supercharged. It means what it sounds like, compressed or smaller. The SLK is the compressed version of the SL, the GLK was the compressed version of the GL and the CLK was the compressed version of the CL, now the S-coupe.

SL stands for sport light or sports light btw.

Edit: I apologize Kompressor is MB nomenclature for supercharged but the K in the model name stands for kurz or short.

DJ is Rolex. Even though we all think otherwise. Subs etc is just the side Rolex
Everyone can tell DJ is Rolex. The rest you have to read about or let someone tell you what it is.

I would mostly Agee but I would say it this way: most non watch people that can spot a Rolex are probably spoting a fluted bezel Rolex.

DJ is the top seller compared to any other Rolex model and by a long shot.

Thinking about some of the age-related comments posted here, I have never seen one U.S. Millennial sporting a DJ, and I live/work in a major urban/suburban area. Subs are another story.

Good point Lee. It seems that DD, DJ’s, and PM, seem the be the way, and models to collect... Less waiting, less speculating(for the most part), lots of choices, classic proportions, etc....I’ve found myself going that direction anyway.

I wonder if rolex makes more DJs or they make as many as subs and GMTs but it’s a supply and demand issue!

I always thought what if rolex makes less DJs (that are relatively harder sell) and more subs, Daytonas and skydwellers but I guess if they do that we will see the cases filled with subs and Daytonas and DJs will go for a high premium!....... it’s all supply and demand

There are obviously more people that are not divers than are. Simple.

By that logic we should see more subs at the ADs than DJs!

Not at all; Rolex produces for where they see the real demand, simple as that. As collectors/WIS we are in a minority and shouldn't be surprised when we can't quench our thirsts with the normal Rolex offerings.

FWIW, when I was in an AD here in Dallas about a year ago, I asked the sales guy what Rolex they sold the most of, and he said Datejust. Focus group of one, so take it for what it is, but wouldn’t surprise me if many ADs said the same.

The profit margin on the DJ may be higher. .......not that Rolex would ever consider profit.

I believe it.

In fact I was that man!

Many people are not watch nerds and will not study the range and wait for years like many of us on here.

I purchased my first Rolex about 17 years ago. I had no idea what was in the range at the time and looked in a number of ADs before purchasing a DJ.
I had never seen or heard of a Daytona until many years later. All I knew was I was happy with the DJ that I purchased.

I was at the Rolex Boutique in London's Heathrow. The case only had DJ-maybe a hundred of them! With couple of PM SkyD and Day-Date!

But all variations of DJ was available. Guess not enough buyers for them. So they sit in the case for longer. But they are beautiful pieces! I would get few of them soon.

But being on TRF and knowing my collegaues and people who want to buy watches, it seems like everyone wants a GMT, Daytona, or Subs. The trend is to get tool watches rather than dressy watch.

I'd say its a great time to buy DJ. Can get it at heavy discount.

Same! I’m a Millennial and my DJ is Fluted / Jubilee on top of that.

What’s interesting is that 44% of Rolex sales is the DJ. What’s more interesting is TT watches are 39%. It’s not a question of SubC being more sold cause of shortage, it’s a Rolex tactic to create this perception. If they want to meet demand, they can divert capacity from DJ production to Sub production - but then again, why would you do that to the most sold model?
