Sorry Jay, I just checked by the price list on this forum that 270 retail price for 2010 is:

PAM00270 Luminor 1950 P.2003 steel, black dial 44mm $17,300
Thanks Robert but this one has a dial that is different from the 270. The dial is the same as the 359 which I like
It looks like it will be in the same price range considering the same movement

Sorry Jay I totally missed that ugly #$% dial. Jesus it surely is ugly, want to see a beautiful dial, look at a 9.

or maybe this rare beauty.

Am I right to think that the Hong Kong edition (402 and 412), Shanghai edition (410
and 420) and Taipei edition (403 and 413) are not limited to set number - unlike the
366 "Fu" Edition? For the 366, I almost think the "Fu" character should be at the 3,
not the 6, more balanced ....

Based on a set of presentation slides that I obtained, below is a summary of the production number for each of them:-

"Fu" 366 - 1,500 pcs
Hong Kong 412 - 200 pcs, 402 -30 pcs
Shanghai 420 -150 pcs, 410 - 30 pcs
Taipei 413 - 50 pcs, 403 - 10 pcs

I guess the numbers are based on the potential buyers among the different locations therefore sounds like Hong Kong has got more PAM lovers than Shanghai and Taipei.

I just put my name today at the shanghai boutique for the 420 - the one with the pig dial and engraved back. As most comments have been about the 366 fu dial I'd be interested to hear comments on the 420. As no deposit required I could always change my mind.

Thanks...

Did the same as Kevin. Put my name down on the 410 and 420 Estimated delivery end 2010.

According to the sales person, each country edition can only be obtained in that particular countries' boutique.

I registered at the boutique in the ifc, the guys there indicated that they should come in sometime in Oct. Fingers crossed. BTW the 410 was tempting but a bit out of my range at the moment...

There is an article (last page on 114) in the August 2010 edition of WatchTime magazine and you will understand why Richemont is heading to the East.

"Last year, if you wanted to get really, really depressed, you'd fly to America. If you wanted to avoid the head shrink, you'd fly to the Far East." - Quoted outgoing Richemont CEO Norbert Platt

The summary "But for now, we live in a strange, new, lopsided watch world where a brand's success is as simple as the number of boutiques it has in China: 10 or more, you're fine; nine or fewer, you're not."

Overall Panerai sales did not fare well in 2009.

Thanks for the comments.

By what I have observed over the years in China, Richemont has a long way to go in China as not too many people really likes black dials except for the younger generation or those who really appreciate Panerai.

I was quoted by the sales lady there that 410 would costs more than RMB80,000 (more than USD11,800).

I got the same info on pricing for the 410. What I found good was that they have obviously looked at their pricing structure and the 420 is about the same price as the HK version equivalent...

Some brands under Richemont did pretty well in 2009. For example Piaget, V Constantin, Cartier, IWC.

I'm hoping Panerai will remain a low profile watch brand in China but I guess it will catch up with the younger generation whose purchasing power is getting stronger and stronger. The fact that the China editions are not sold out is a good thing for Panerai fans (less competition).

Kevin the 420 was quoted for around RMB30,000+ retail. Am I correct?

At first they said rmb32k+ but then corrected to rmb37.5k think the initial quote was for the 366.

Well you never know what the 366 will fetch 10 or 20 years down the road. It may be the one n only one Panerai model ever to have a chinese character on the dial.

Pam 366

The Panerai shop at Shanghai IFC confirmed that the price for PAM 366 is RMB29,900. Based on my chat with the sales person, I feel that the demand for the watch is not high at all compared with the other Shanghai editions.

I was in the IFC Shanghai boutique today (again), this time with wife and kid and can confirm that the 366 is RMB29K and the 420 is RMB37.5K with expected delivery in Oct.

Tried to pry from them if anything special was planned for the 1 Sept boutique event but they wouldn't give anything away.

Finally, tried on a very nice 292, if I hadn't the 420 on order I would have been sorely tempted...

It's the official boutique opening, Anthony gave me a heads up and I texted them for an invite (not sure if you really need an invite). Anyway it's at the ifc boutique from 6pm.

Maybe see you there...

I really hope so. Please do come along that day.

Based on previous experiences in HK, I was told that all 2010 models will be available, at least, for display.

The full-arabic dials look like the 359 dial. Glad to see more of that look.

Can't wait till the opening next week.

I would have preferred the Shanghai edition to have the 10 day automatic movement but if there are only 30 pieces available for Shanghai I can't complain at all. 30 pieces in a population of 1.3 billion people, with 400,000 millionaires alone.

As the 10-day versions are only available in Hong Kong and Taipei, you would need to approach the local shops directly instead of via their Shanghai shop. Chances are slim in Hong Kong but Taipei may worth a try.
