Which JLC model? Master Control / w Sector Dial vs Dual time
Looking at adding a JLC and choosing between the Master Control, Master control with secotor Dial, and the dual time / Hometime model.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ja...k-on-the-wrist That band is sharp. Curious to get thoughts. Thanks |

The sector dial is really nice. I saw it in person a few weeks ago. Very thin. The dial and overall finishing are great.

Master Control Date with a standard dial gets my vote. Perfect dress watch in it's classic form.

Oh, are we talking about JLC MC Sector dial overhyped and overblown by those Hodinkee watch journalists ??? Come on guys, let's be honest about that inexpensive very basic printed dial finishing minus the applied Arabic numerals and hour markers that loses its 3D depth effect, the skeletonized syringe hour hand falls a little short, it doesn't touch the markers on the chapter ring and that date window is .... Ok. Let's not talk about the date window, shall we ? If you're having dinner in a dimly lit dark restaurant, you'll be struggling to read the time at a glance. Sorry Boys, I just prefer the more expensive grandpa grade MC Non Sector dial

The above Master Control does look classic. But I’ve never seen the sector dial in person.

Despite that the sector dial only was supposed to be sold 2017 it is still available at JLC’s webpage. It didn’t sell like hotcakes I guess, I don’t like homage/tribute watches, and the radium lume fell out hands doesn’t work for me. The regular production watch is still nice though (its not the one above BTW).

I also prefer the regular dial version myself. I was all worked up about the sector dial until I saw it, then it left me a bit flat (no pun intended). I also do not like the white space around the outer diameter. The one thing that I do like is that it has the movement with the new rotor (which the newer manufactured ones should be getting too).
In addition I also thought that it was supposed to be avaliable only in 2017 but it is still on JLC’s website. |

Tried on the Sector Dial today. Was OK but not blown away by any means.

Agree with the above - the regular versions are just a little better than the new sector versions.

It's finally looking like the Sector Dial is catching on after ~3 years. I got mine last year and it's growing on me day by day. I like the classic dial, and as a pure dress watch that's probably what I would've picked, but as an everyday office watch I find the Sector Dial livelier and more special, personally.

They're all nice watches but the date ruins the simple Master Controls for me so I'd personally go for the Master Geographic. Longines bests JLC and the Patek 5296 when it comes to the aesthetics of a sector dial.
