Gold is basically for those who diversified too much they just need to park money somewhere.

IMO 90% in equities (SPY or whatever) rest in top stocks and a spec

Use dollar cost averaging... buy a little bit more as time goes on to even out your cost basis. In the past couple of weeks, the stock seems to creep upwards regardless of what the broader market is doing.

It's a relatively inexpensive stock, so you can pick up 500 shares for less than the cost of a used Submariner.

Buy a bunch of stock every few weeks and hope for the best. If it doesn't work out, we'll all show up at Larry's house with pitchforks and torches.

Thanks for the sound advice

HRTX looks interesting although the technicals are awful. With no known FDA timelines could mid to low-teen entry be possible?

Who could know? Possible, sure, but do you want to miss the opportunity for a couple of points? Dollar cost averaging is the way to play it.

Smarter Analyst article snippet from way back referreing to other HRTX failures:

"The FDA’s “CLR” to Heron (then A.P. Pharma) pointed to major concerns in multiple areas, including the two-syringe system, manufacturing deficiencies found during inspections, and a need for reanalysis of efficacy data.
In March 2013, the agency once again rejected the APF530 (Sustol) application, citing many of the same issues the company had been told to address in 2010."

I'll keep my eye on this one but there's a long history here. Also, combining two on the market drugs for a third drug, any evidence of other company/drug wins utilizing this approach?

If you sneeze on someone, and the stock drops, there will be a class action.

In my more short term trading account I’m short SPY. Long Swiss Francs. Long Gold and Silver.

In my medium term I’m long PFE. (Pfizer) Looking to add CBRL and BX.

In my long term account I’m Long SPY and some other mega cap etfs.

Don’t get caught with your pants down. Markets are very volatile. Could go either way. Algorithms are constantly selling all these headlines. And buying them too.

It's hard for me to value a company until they start showing a profit.

It'll eventually go up some day (hopefully) but they continue to henmorage money and still sit below the IPO price of $45 US per share.

Creative accounting can be difficult to catch at times but it's there, nonetheless.

Your strategy for this stock is good, it's certainly a long-term hold. Until they can come up with an actual solution to the aforementioned (videos and articles) it could have some volitility / continue sitting below the IPO price.

You can potentially profit off this in time but they've still got a huge up hill battle to sustain a higher share price. It's a bit of a disaster now with potential to get worse. Only time will tell but they do need earnings.

ETF IDEA... what if there was an etf that went long the trendy companies like Beyond Meat, UBER and Tilray. And short the old dogs of the Dow and blue chips that really underperform. Like Boeing, Kraft and so on. Also the etf could generate return because the trendy shares are highly shorted and have high borrowing costs. I wonder how this strategy would work?

Wanted to ask if I can wear my Rolex in the garden...

Have invested a large part of my portfolio in financial industries. But will we continue to see similar growth/returns on the medium term
  • Facebook is launching Libra (cryptocurrency)
  • Tech/retail is launching credit cards
  • Interest rates are decreasing

Its an area where the usual suspects will face increased competition and with decreased returns due to low interest rates. Dont believe that we will experience any significant impact short-term, but on the medium terms this might evolve.

Anyone with interesting perspectives on this area?

Back to that HRTX topic...

Well, it's taking a beating (largely due, I'm sure, to the market downturn) but I'm still hanging in there, hoping for a good FDA response. I'm underwater, and adding to my position as the stock drops (lowering my cost basis) but now I've got so much of it, I just can't see adding any more.

I ran across this, this morning. It's just one guy's opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

(original URL: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/biote...194006107.html)
Heron Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:HRTX): A big opportunity to rebound

Heron Therapeutics had a rough first half of 2019. The stock has given up well over a third of its value, fueled by a surprising upset from the FDA.

The company's claim to fame is its experimental non-opioid pain therapy that has been dubbed HTX-011. Unfortunately, the company received a Complete Response Letter from the FDA, which essentially rejects the treatment being submitted.

This came as a huge shock to many. In clinical studies, the drug seemed to perform well from both an efficacy and safety standpoint. If approved, the drug had the potential to earn $500 million or more in sales over time, so the rejection was not only shocking, it was painful.

Nonetheless, the declines could represent an opportunity ahead. According to Heron Therapeutics, the rejection was based on technical issues that are relatively easy to resolve. As such, the company may be resubmitting its application relatively soon.

Of course, if all is as Heron Therapeutics portrays it, a resubmission has the strong potential of yielding a regulatory approval and opening the door to incredible revenues ahead. So, this is a stock that's well worth keeping an eye on.
Further research found this from their recent quarterly earnings statement:
"We expect to meet with the FDA shortly to discuss our responses to the CRL for HTX-011, and we remain focused on resubmitting the NDA as soon as possible," said Barry Quart, Pharm.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Heron. "Our CINV franchise continues to perform well, highlighted by strong net product sales in the second quarter."
So that seems positive.

Down day but still clocking away:

As long as the strong sales continues would expect the stock price to do the same!

I like Jim Cramer but I would be looking to generate your own ideas. Also by the time those reports on the street come out. People have already piled into the stocks. Pick 3-5 stocks you like and hold them. I also like index funds/etfs. But that’s just me.

I used to pay for valueline, but their model doesn't work well in this Market.

I often trade based on friend's recommendations after, of course, my own research. And buy companies that i know.
