Dislike of my Tudor Black Bay 79230

After owning my Tudor for three months now I'm ready to sell. I can't stand the faux rivets on the bracelet. Thats probably my biggest complaint. Its also very top heavy and the bracelet is bulky. Don't get me wrong its a great watch. I just think the bb58 might be the best alternative for me, but I guess I would have to fine a different bracelet. What are ya'll experience with this reference?

BB58 on a matte Staib mesh is the play.

I own a BB GMT and absolutely love the rivet bracelet. For one, like many other's have commented, the rivets disappear once on the wrist and quickly become a non issue. Plus, the stair step taper has a cool vintage touch.

At 6'4", the 41mm size and thickness are perfect for me. The 22mm bracelet is a perfect size to match & balance the head and fits me well.

Big fan of the modern sized Tudor references.

That sucks that the bracelet offends you. The BB58 looks great on a NATO. Here’s a picture of my wife wearing hers on a Chevron adjustable from Crown & Buckle. Also alternatively you can try to find the ETA variant also pictured that come with non riveted oyster bracelet

Just purchased a BB58 and am so far loving the size and thickness. I do like the faux rivets, but not everyone’s cup of tea!

I have the BB58 and honestly don't even notice the rivets when wearing it.

I am attracted to this watch due in part to the retro rivets...

I have been wearing a BB58 Navy Blue on an after market Marine Nationale strap and it is very comfortable. They are a bit of a strap monster to be fair.

I had the BB GMT and the rivets drove me crazy also. I thought I could overlook them but I could not. They look like something Tag Heuer would design. It was also very thick and top heavy so it never was comfortable.

Then the date wheel malfunctioned just as I was selling it so I had to send it off to be fixed before selling.

It was a nightmare and I'm done with Tudor for good.

I loved the Black Bay in theory (though mine was an older ETA-blue), but I had similar complaints about the bulk and top-heaviness. I ended up selling it as I found it uncomfortable to wear.

When the BB58 was released I thought the faux rivets looked awful in promotional photos. Then got the chance to try it on at an AD and immediately loved the watch - faux rivets and all. Always enjoy wearing my BB58 and I can honestly say I never even notice the rivets when it’s on the wrist.

In all honesty if you made it past the catch ans release stage of say a week, I’d give it some more time. It’s a fine watch and I think the proportions are super. The rivets add a touch of retro too.

I like the rivets, just not putting the bracelet back on till I get it back of my watchmaker - he is modifying it and adding a spare easy link I had for my Explorer on to it.

Easy link is a cool mod! Have also a spare easy-link, may put it on later!

I have a BB GMT and I was also not in love with the bracelet. I was already spoilt by Rolex oyster bracelets. But as soon as I switched it to a leather strap it made all the difference.

Maybe the Pelagos bracelet is better, but my guess is that they intentionally leave a big quality gap in the bracelets vs Rolex. They could do better for the money if they wanted, they just don’t want to.

Interesting to read this because I've rarely if ever heard someone complain about the rivets AFTER purchasing the watch. Most of us (myself included) didn't like the rivets when we first saw them in photos but found them much less objectionable after getting the watch on our wrists. I barely notice they are there to be honest. I find they almost disappear when wearing. One option if they do bother you is to purchase the older model bracelet and sell the new one. They are still available.

As for the size, if you find it too large or heavy you may really like the BB58. Get it on leather or nato and you should be good to go.

Not an easy mod - you need to modify one of the Tudor links so it will fit - this explains it well:

I know! A while ago read Axel’s nice writeup. Am mod friendly and a DIY guy, can most likely do that myself! The other “upgrade” fitting option is to add a 4th hole in the clasp, which Axel had also reference on his link above

Have 3 variations of the ETA (79220) model. With a properly adjusted bracelet I don't find it to be too top heavy at all. When I am in between in sizing and the watch head has the ability to move around my wrist, I did find it a little uncomfortable to wear.

Sits nicely on my flat wrist as the caseback on the ETA version is very flat.

I'm not a fan of most of the modern Tudor's so I'm right there with you. Too bad because my AD actually, you know, has cases full of them to sell.

I don’t understand the gripe with the rivets. It’s not something you even see on the wrist. They are not anymore “faux” than the screws on the AP bezel either

I will resonate the same messages as others before. I did not like Tudors choice to add the rivets, but I rarely notice them when wearing and seldom care when I do. Very comfortable watch to wear.

I will admit, I am glad I got the ETA version myself. 2mm less height. Would love to try on a BB58 or GMT to see what they feel like, if that ever becomes an option locally.

Love my ETA smiley BB on distressed leather - couldn't do the faux rivets either.

I think the 58 Blue looks great on the MN. I think Erika’s Originals is not on many people’s radar, and they’re not inexpensive. But, having one on my CHNR allows my wife to wear it if she wants. It’s a great look, and many color choices.

The thing is I see it every time I put the bracelet on. I actually prefer to wear it on a Burton silicon strap. Its just that if the watch is at all lose on your wrist you can feel it slide side to side. I do prefer having the in house movement. I think Im going to try the BB58. I prefer a 20mm strap over a 22mm. I got to say its a great watch. I think Im just used to my Rolex oyster bracelet, so every time I see those rivets I think cheap and too over the top. I might try a aftermarket bracelet.

Thanks Guys
