The kid wanted Gucci loafers, not Ferragamos!

Disclaimer first. I don't have kids yet.

I bring this up because I came across a scenario playing out in front of me over the the weekend and it disturbed me.

I'm sure many of us have seen ridiculously spoiled kids on TV or here and there, but for the most part it's things I see or hear about from media.

Was at Nordstrom with my dad over the weekend. Checking out the shoe section and there was another father and son.

The dad was maybe in his 40s and the kid was at most 12. Probably younger. Kid sitting in a chair with a salesman on the ground in front of him and probably 15 boxes of shoes sprawled across in front of him. The kid was not really paying attention, just looking down as the salesman put shoes on his feet. His father at one point suggested Ferragamos and the kid almost had a freakout because he wanted Guccis.

Obviously every parent wants to give their kids the best, but I think seeing that kid made me realize that might be my biggest fear about having my own some day.

I didn't grow up wealthy. Middle class all the way. I don't even think I could have fathomed wearing shoes that cost more than $100 when I was that age. Before I get called out for being at Nordstrom, this has all happened somewhat recently. We were a Sears family growing up and Macy's was the fancy store. I'll probably be in a good enough position that I will be able to give my kids nice things, but I don't think I want to. Not if that is what it leads to.

I don't know what I would do if ever ended up in a position where my child was throwing a tantrum because he/she wanted Gucci loafers and not Ferragamos.

i've seen this at Nordstrom. its their fault because they confuse the crap out of buyers with so many options pulled from the back.

as for the baby's reaction, no comment.

I think I'd sell the kids and get my self a pair of Gucci s lol..... just kidding but that scenario reflects very poorly on the parents I think if you bring your kids up to respect people and things they should be a bit more balanced but if you don't spend time with your kids and tried to buy them this is where you end up...your time together cost nothing and it's precious.....

This was actually my first thought as well.

I actually had the urge to tell the kid to go with the Ferragamos despite knowing Gucci makes a great loafer.

The kids behavior is most likely a reflection of poor parenting.

Lol- Gucci pretty cumffy lol. Oh no- I bought my kids Gucci shoes cuz I wanted to match lol. I was a young father. I don’t think I would do that today. I was dumb back then buying Ferrari’s and Bentley’s when I really shouldn’t be

As others have stated it is 100% parenting. Prior to having kids (just 3 years ago) this was a fear of mine. After 3 1/2 years and 2 children later I can attest to every child has their days, but overall it is how you raise them!

Parents made them that way, I have seen plenty of 20 and 30 and 40 somethings lining up for the Gucci tennis shoes of late, so the kid is in trend.

1000% agree. I’m just not sure a man should wear Gucci’s.

I know I can’t. Meanwhile I have 10+ pairs of Ferragamos.

As far as that snot nose kid goes that’s an extremely easy thing to fix. Trust me.

If buying Gucci or whatever has no affect on your feeding the family then what difference? If however you can't afford your bills.........It reminds me of a great expression I picked up in Italy roughly translated means 'Prada on your feet and onions on the table'.

+1 on that!

If you're going to be a spoiled brat, at least know which is the better shoe!

Usually it's the mother freaking out over the brand, while the kid sits on his phone and couldn't care less.
