worth to trade 5726 steel blue for 5170p?
Hello all,
I'm considering to trade my 5726 steel blue for 5170p. I'm always a fan of chronograph and platinum, so I think 5170p will make a great addition to my small collection of 5968a and 5196p. My dilemma is that I also like the blue dial of 5726 since it is has the color most similar to original nautilus. Do you think it's worth to do so, and if so, what is the most fair trade, i.e. 5726 + cash for 5170p, or 5726 for 5170p + small amount of cash? I'd love to hear your thoughts. |

5170p is one of my favorite Patek's, but I wouldn't trade a 57261a (another of my favorites) for it. If it was me, I would let go of the 5196p and add cash for the 5170p. I know the cash difference is going to be bigger this way, but I think a 57261a, 5170p, and 5968a would be a dream trio.

Oh gosh. No. Don’t do it. But I’m just not a 5170 guy. Much better pp dressers.

I'd do that trade any day and I am afraid you will have to add some cash. The 5170P is my favorite modern manual Patek chrono while I have never liked any of the 5726 including the 1A. Much prefer 5711/12/40 and many older Nautilus refs.

I’d do it in a heartbeat, 5726 is an ok Nautilus but the 5170P is one of Pateks best. When the sports craze settles down people will appreciate the difference between such pieces.

Definitely the 5170p. Great piece and produced in small numbers over a few years.
The dial is stunning, the diamond batons are tastefully done and the movement is something else. Though I like the 5726 it was a bit thick for my taste vs the 5712. The 5170p is on another level for me. |

Absolutely, the 5170p is amazing, best modern Patek imo, excluding grand complications

The 5170P is my favorite Patek "dress" watch - and I've had a bunch. Beautiful dial and case and at 39mm just the right size for me.

Interesting project as... I'm in a similar position to trade a 5712/1A for the 5170P (among others).
I guess it will depend on where you stand regarding its mechanical appeal (to what extent do you enjoy/value what's behind such manual-wind horizontal clutch chronograph calibers), aside of the purely aesthetical factor. It has everything: smart-casual versatile look, platinum, manual chrono, finish, classical proportion/size, beauty of such elaborate dial (gradated color, white markings). So, my answer is "yes" and I regret I didn't go much earlier for a 5270 during the time the Nautilus skyrocketed before the rest. One additional factor is that I can't wear the Nautilus outside serenely where I live (hence why I stopped wearing it). Like the 5236P I'm considering as well, prices are softening for the 5170P. Keep us informed :) |

Tough one, love both references … not much help here, I’d regret letting go of the 5726 but loooove the 5170p!

If it’s with a reputable dealer then yes I think it’s fair. You’d typically see the nautilus listed for maybe 5k more but there has to be some margin and you’re 100% getting the better watch.

Just to also bring “value” into the equation, the 5170p used to retail around 85-90 usd I believe before discontinued and being a platinum manual wind chronograph produced in small numbers. It initially sold less than retail on market but now more appreciate it.
Funnily enough like most nautilus before all the hype the 5726 used to sell around retail 300,000 hkd back in the day around 2017, the year when the 5170p was first produced. Before the blue dial version came out I recall it was not really popular at all back then and would sit available in some ADs. A lot of people didn’t like it as didn’t think annual calendar was suitable in a sports piece. Funny to think of now. |

5170P is a superb reference. 5726/1A is a practical Nautilus but too thick. You already have a "sporty" Patek with good water resistance (5968A). A manual wind chronograph is a proper watch. I would do the trade, especially if you're not adding cash.
Let us know what you decide. |

OP, I also believe that if you manage to trade the 5726a for the 5170p you are getting a very good deal and a wonderful watch.

The 5170p has become one of my favorite watches to wear. I have found it to be extremely versatile.
