I did the same trip, but over 40 years ago, also visiting Monterey (while staying in Carmel) and San Simeon (twice for two different tours).

Wow!

The R8 is sweet. I used to have an R6.2. Lovely system.

Concurring. North Silicon Valley (aka Silicon Valley North) = Seattle, WA.

The last thing we need around here in Marin County is Apple, Facebook and Google complexes (along with any accompanying gridlock) cluttering up the natural scenery.

If these companies wish to expand any further, there's always San Benito County.

The M Leica is the one I love, but the R8 followed me this time. Fun camera. And excellent lenses.

OK, so staying in Beautiful monterey at the Clement Intercontinental, which I highly recommend! Can't still grip the price of this hotel and the level of quality it delivers.... Well I guess this is Low season...?

Anyhow. Started driving south (just for the day, still here in Monterey) headed for 17-mile drive. It is still every bit as awesome as it was 21 years ago. Took the exit to Carmel, walked the beach drove around a bit and then again steered south towards Big Sur along Highway 1.

Had lunch at this Out-Of-The-World-Beautiful place called "Nepenthe". What a place! (Pics below until Carmel, more to come)

Leaving SF, I snapped one more pic of GG.

Cannery Row, Monterey....

Got stuffed on Prime Rib last night! At a Restaurant I ate at 21 years ago too. Nice to see mine isn't the only over 30-year old place.

Then a pic of seagulls outside my room window this morning.

Got to get going....

Lunch time!

At Nepenthe.

Good food, poor view.

No seriously, both were awesome. Not a tourist trap.

Awesome pictures! Especially like your photo of the Lone Cypress!

Where was the prime rib from? Looks good. Did you try House of Prime Rib in San Francisco?

I wanted to (House of Prime Rib), but we had to skip it (had a reservation, which I cancelled), travelling with a pregnant wife isn't always easy (she doesn't like prime rib, and eating rare meat isn't perhaps the best being pregnant). I'm sure she would say, travelling with a small boy having Toothache isn't easy either! (although that is now gone)

The place in Monterey is "Whaling station Steakhouse".

The lone Cypress really is best photographed from the road. Again, all of these are pretty quick snaps with my iPhone. I have my R8 loaded with Ilford PAN 50.

California trip....

Not sure how far you’re heading; but if you stop in Pasadena, head to the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens. it’s a great local museum and wonderful gardens to wander. If you like that stuff, also the LA Arboretum or Descanso Gardens are fun. LACMA, MOCA, the Broad, if you like cars, the Petersen Auto Museum just got an overhaul last year. Of course, we’ve got huundreds of delicious breweries the further you go. It looks like you’re having a blast! PM me if you need any other SoCal spots(if you’ll be around).
