1675 Getting the Full Treatment at LAWW

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share that I had my watch dropped off at LAWW to get the full treatment. Movement overhaul, new hands installed (sourced from GreekBum, thanks bud!), and a full case refinish to bring it back to as close to factory as possible. Have nothing but the best to say about Edvie and Beau so far as they've taken the time to answer all of my questions and have been very prompt in their correspondence.

I'll make sure to post before, progress, and after pics as I get them. Cheers guys!

Very interested in seeing and hearing your results as I am contemplating doing the same with my 1675. Also would be interested in the fee if you would be able to tell me or PM me.

Sure send me a PM. I'll say it's definitely reasonable though.

Good choice if you want top notch work done. I have used them for a couple projects and have been completely satisfied with the results. Not cheap but well worth the investment in a vintage Rolex.

1675 Getting the Full Treatment at LAWW

Revisiting this thread as the topic of recutting cases was brought up recently and I had completely forgotten to share the photos of the completed work done at LAWW (things got crazy at work the last couple of months). Without further ado, my completed 1675.

I like those guys, but had a bad experience. They were more than a month late on a restoration job and provided no updates. Communication was like pulling teeth.

My watch also went beyond the slated timeline, which was a bit disconcerting. But they get so many watches that they get backlogged. Their work is top notch though. Just have to be patient.

I’m not sure. My watch did not undergo any laser welding though.

My understanding is that laser welding can be done to the lug holes to correct “bowling” as part of a case refinish, but they can’t make lugs “thicker”

+1

There is a common misconception with laser welding. Some think it can be done to thicken lugs and make a case look “untouched factory” but a laser could never ever do that. The only thing lasers are good for is spot welding deep scratches or lug hole correction.. Its also good for small meticulous jobs that need to be precise..

I have even seen laser weld used for lug chamfer correction, but as far as using it to build out an entire lug, it would take a life time to do one lug and the result wouldn’t be great.

Subking: You couldnt be more wrong. I have lugs laser welded to be thicker on a weekly basis. In fact, I am welding the lugs of a Paul Newman case tomorrow. I am very tempted to post before and after pictures of the lugs but, blur out the serial, because I doubt the watch owner would want that info out there. These lugs are so thin and will be so fat that it would be a great sticky.

It can be done, it IS done. The reason why most of the major shops wont do it is because it is very time consuming. It also inevitably causes porosity in the steel from the entry of oxygen into the weld. This requires many trips back to the laser welder to weld, then lapping machine to lap, then polishing machine to polish, then back to the laser again to correct porosity and so on and so on..

Stainless cases from Rolex are cast from molten steel so there is little to no porosity in the material initially.

PS: Please do not PM me and ask me to do your lugs, I will not respond. The watches I do are for my own collection or for fellow collectors who I am friends with that require my help. Please, my work is not for hire for any price :)

Let me also add that nobody I know can refinish a case like LAWW. Their work far exceeds that of ABC and that is my opinion of course..
