1601 Wide Boy With Papers

Picked up this 1601 which had a broken aftermarket bracelet on it. The owners wanted to get rid of it, but wasn't sure if they wanted to sell it or put it in an auction. I made them an offer based on no bracelet or service history. The owners decided to go the auction route. This resulted in me getting the watch for 25% less than my offer and the owners still had to pay the auction comission! The serial number is 1971 and papers are dated 1972 and I assume from Hong Kong. Trying to decide if its a keeper since I'm normally a sport watch guy. Any thoughts?

I have a 1603 and wished it had papers. These 1600, 1601 and 1603 with papers are hard to find. You should keep this and have one with strap combinations. You also now have a dressier watch instead of wearing your SS Rolex in a suit. Nice find.

Nice score! Looks in good nick, service & new Perspex it'll be perfect.

Looks great on strap or try a PCL bracelet to modernise it (& give the purist naysayers severe heartburn!)... might have to be TT though, often looks odd if bracelet is monotone with TT head.

Very nice. If you've been trying to Google the AD, the name "Caravon" Road should be "Carnarvon" Road.
