I wouldn't buy a ceramic cased watch, but I could at least appreciate one. Unfortunately, when you add gold accents that just kills it for me

There seems to be a SS version after all!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYK5-OKl-tg

The bracelet will have PCLs as well, which I could live without, but oh well.

I think it might just turn out to be okay... if the price is right

Smart move by Omega. I could still do without the fake vintage lume, but the watch has a nice silhouette.

Looks good, but PCLs should never be on a dive watch. I find it particularly odd that Omega is going for the vintage look with the matte dial and aged looking lume, but then adds the PCLs. For what? Added flash? Doesn't that take away from the vintage look? It just seems very odd to me.

PCL's are an easy fix!

In this case, I completely agree.

True, but it does seem incoherent to have PCLs on a vintage diver, as pointed out above.

Master coaxial.. Humm new movement I guess and new technology designed :) efficiency and longer lasting parts there for less need for servicing and better time keeping.

IMO it is old with the new which like :) I really look forward to seeing the end result of this piece !

I'm liking the way it looks if it ends up being all SS (or available in all SS). Is that a sandwich dial?!

Swatch Group just couldn't help themselves from entering the fake patina race with Richemont Group (JLC, Panerai, IWC, etc)...

Overall though, if it comes in under 42mm, it looks pretty good to me. I like the idea, I like the lack of HEV, the matte dial looks great, no date to boot. I could have done without the PCLs.

It is going to be a great week! :-)

Still too early to tell but this is shaping up to be the piece I need to buy this year. Sandwich/matte dial, manual wind, simple time-only, artificial patina (I'm a fan)...Only downside to my liking is the PLCs. Those shouldn't be on any vintage styled watch, IMO.

If they:
-make it bigger than 42mm
-hockey puck thick
-or give it that weird arrow hour hand and straight minute hand or vice versa
-some weird LE with cliche "LE" writing on the dial
then they've ruined it.

Otherwise I'm so so into this watch.

From the pictures available and the historical watch this one will be based on, it seems the hands will be of the sort you mentioned. They have a heritage to them, which is nice. The last couple of years have brought a boom of re-issues from various brands, which allows for the majority of us, unschooled in vintage, to have a better chance at enjoying these pieces.

If I did get one I would have to brush the entire bracelet ! PCL's do not suit the watch for its purpose !

Good catch, Cru. It does seem like the Product Strategist at Richemont Group got a job at Swatch. :-)

Ha! Good eye, Cru! Good thing the design dates back to 57, though. Do you know when the original JLC was introduced?

actually, after i posted the picture, i had a thought that maybe the seamaster came first? i believe the "tribute to 1959" model is meant to honor the Memovox Deep Sea that was launched in 1959.

all i know is, when i saw the tease picture of the "new" omega, i immediately thought "JLC!" oops. ;-)

anyway, if the omega is meant as a tribute to a 1957 model, then, IMHO, references to the new modern movement should not be made on the dial. kind of mixes new and old in a strange way?

Interesting thought on the mention of the new caliber. It could be that they want to project an idea of strenghtening heritage, while still moving forward?

You do have a point that it seems to mix up old and new. Well, at least there are very few lines of text on the dial.
