Try a cleaning agent specifically for oxidation, if that doesn't work a light polish to get it off.

My CHNR spent over a hour in the hot tub on my last trip.

Having looked at the picture a few times, then I am actually starting to prefer that reddish orange hue compared to the classic YG

Is anyone familiar with Esalen in Big Sur, California?

Anyway, Esalen has natural hot springs and when I went, they went out of their way to tell everyone before going into any of the tubs not to wear any gold jewelry. They said it can affect the coloring. I believe they said it was the high sulfur content in the tubs that cause the discoloring.

This stood out to me at the time since I had recently bought a YG Sub. I didn't have that watch (or any watch) on at me at the time, so I didn't press for details.

My only point being, I find OP's story believable based on this.

I was just digging around and found this...

"August 31, 2008

Please tell me how to restore my wedding ring to its original gold color. It is 14k and I used "super shock"(chlorine powder) in my pool and the metal has turned a strange copper looking color.

Thanks,"

The amount of ignorance and speculation in this thread is disturbing.

Here is what my insurance company has to say on the subject.

Welcome to the Internet. Here's the relevant text from the link you provided. This should prove definitive, but dollars to donuts we'll still be getting posts from people questioning either the veracity of the OP's account, or the authenticity of his watch, or general insistence hot-tub tarnishing is impossible because it's never happened to them, or similar nonsense.

Hazards to Avoid
Because of gold jewelry’s high chance of tarnish*, there are a couple specific substances to avoid:

Chlorine – Chlorine, especially at high temperatures like in a hot tub, can permanently damage or discolor your gold jewelry. Remember to remove it when cleaning with chlorine bleach, too!

*While pure gold does not tarnish, almost all gold jewelry is an alloy, as mentioned above. Depending on the percentage of other metals mixed with the gold, there is chance for tarnish. Better safe than sorry!

Out of curiosity, how do you polish the flutted bezel? Is there a special tool used for this, so as not to round off the tips?

Thank you

The fun stuff I have no problem with at all.

Blatantly incorrect information, stated as fact by people too lazy to spend the five minutes it would take to verify it, tends to annoy me.

Telling the guy his watch is fake with no evidence other than “my gut tells me” or “that don’t seem right” contributes nothing, and is likely stressing the poor OP out even further.

And then we have the folks advocating going to the press?
Sorry, but all that is going to get to get you is ridiculed.
Sympathy by 99% of the population for a guys discolored $10,000 watch is going to be nonexistent.

I guess I need some THC and a chill pill to get ease my standards.

That sad truth about this is that this forum is supposed to be an informational source to Rolex owners and would-be owners. However, the level of misinformation and reckless speculation here (hardly isolated to this thread) is such that one practically has to be an expert to sort the truth from the trash. Those who don't know better can be understandably overwhelmed or misled. Those of us who do know better can understandably find it odious.

I also think it's fair to say that Rolex engages in a bit of hubris in their marketing. So we are surprised when they fail or break under conditions that don't seem all that challenging. I imagine that most present day users would appreciate engineering efforts directed toward a gold alloy that can survive a hot tub as much as a helium escape valve that is only functional in situations where you would never use a watch to time a dive.

I'm not a gold guy. But to those that are, do the owner's manuals caution about taking the gold references into high chlorine environments?
