A recent (almost) scamming experience.

I post a watch for sale in FB a few days ago. Yesterday, I received a FB messenger from a guy lived at Maryland, US. He was willing to pay my asking price, but I have to include shipping and insurance cost. In addition, he specify to use Canada Post (not Fedex, UPS, etc.).

He asked me for my Paypal email address. Sent the money to me, and told me to check inbox. I checked and saw the email, but it looked fishy to me. I then log in my Paypal account separately, to check the fund. Obviously, there's no money, nor pending fund in my account. Checked the email again, and was told that I need to reply with a tracking number before the money can be deposited into my paypal account. Messenger the guy back, and was told that he chose "goods and services protection". In addition, he refused to tell me the shipping address directly. Just told me to see Paypal for the address. I checked and found out that the address is in Nigeria!!

I went to Post office, and was told that once I pay for the shipping cost and created a tracking number, the parcel will be shipped out anytime, depending on their convenience. I cannot come back in one hour and cancel the mail.

I went home, called Paypal directly and verify the transaction ID that I saw in the email. The girl said incorrect format. I messenger the guy to cancel the transaction. He called me from messenger and said it was unfair to him, cuz Paypal hold his fund. I said call Paypal to release the fund, because the transaction was cancelled. It was Paypal that is unfair to you, not me!!!

This morning, I checked my previous paypal emails and found out that there suppose to be a "Paypal" logo on the far left corner of the email. This guy's (not mentioning Brian Carman's name) email doesn't have one. Obviously, it was a scam!

This story tell everyone that when you are conducting an online transaction, not just to check seller, but also need to check buyer.

Good work. This is why I trade mine ones in to a grey. I just can’t be arsed with the potential hassle out there.

This time is someone called: Marilyn Villa, said from Gardena, California.

When I keep asking her/him for full shipping address, including zip code, she/he told me to "fxxk off".

He/she must new to this scamming business. Not even pass my "address" question? How could he/she become a "successful scammer"?

One of the last places where I would put my watch for sale would be on Facebook.

If anything, go to the greys for a painless experience. You might not get tippy top dollar, but I've always found it to be easier / more worthy of my time than anything else.

Personally, I’m not interested in doing business with somebody that I can’t call, have a conversation with, and ideally have a FaceTime interaction.
I want to see a face, and hear a personality that I might trust.
(Potentially, I could still be scammed by a well trained sociopath, but that hasn’t happened yet….)

I have a few watches that I want to sell, but these stories are really bumming me out!
