The forgotten Blancpain Fifty Fathoms

My first high end watch bought in 2006 and still one of my favorites. It’s a shame it doesn’t get more love because in person it’s absolutely amazing with an incredible movement still used in blancpains today. The legibility is amazing, super comfortable and light. Same case and movement as the mil spec. The bezel can come across is a little flashy, but it’s very nicely designed and finished.

Stunning watch. I have the Bathyscaphe and it gets the most wrist time.

I was not a fan at first, but it has significantly grown on me like a fungus and my opinion has drastically changed. I really like it. I much prefer the Hodinkee version that does not have “BLANCPAIN” engraved on the case though.

They are fantastic, superbly made and finished, and ridiculous bargains on the secondary market. I wanted to get the GMT version, alas the 40mm looked a little too small on me.

If I was looking for a smaller 40mm-ish, durable sports chrono I'd grab this beauty before that "other" chronograph:

Insane bargains. I am now looking for a gold perpetual calendar fifty fathoms which was one of the trilogy era versions. I also looked at general pre-owned BPs and there are amazing values all around. Particularly the rose good Lehman models like reveil are very intriguing. And the grand date aqua lung is amazing too.

The Aqua Lung Grande Date is selling about 2x original price. I bought mine for ~$5.5k(SS, strap) when they first came out and recently seen some sell for >$11k.

Yep. It’s one of the few BPs that are getting a lot of attention. When I bought my FF, it was between that and the grande date.

That watch I still have a soft spot for. One of the first watches I aspired to own but never did. The finish on the steel is stunning.

Looks like the Yacht-Master & JLC Polaris had a love child.

Ha! My first thoughts as well :)

Huge respect for BP, although the bezel catches me off guard with this particular example.

Always nice seeing something other than a sub!
