What type and year Seamaster do i have here?
I have had this watch for over 35 years, I inherited it from my father. I have never properly researched it. I did have a new crystal and strap fitted a few years ago. One thing thats very interesting is the text ‘omega automatic’ it was obviously hand painted by a watchmaker before I inherited it. I actually kind of like it although it’s not very well done. To be honest, I never really noticed until a short while ago!!
Can anybody give me some info about the possible production year and model? I can’t provide pictures of the backside at the moment but could do so at another time... Another twist to this story. My father who was an officer in the Army bought the watch while stationed in Switzerland. He was wearing his watch when he passed away on a boat at sea in 1982, thus the word Seamaster has a double meaning for me... Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk |

Since the dial has been refinished, it is hard to even say that it is a Seamaster.
Hands would be pre-60's if they are original. Likely there are numbers in the caseback, as well as the movement numbers, to help narrow things down.

The dial was refinished for your Dad due to some reason. The Seamasters in the early 60’s uses a varnish on the dial to seal it and if any microbes got in there they ate the organic compounds leaving a powdery mildew.
Take it to a certified watchmaker and he can figure out the caliber and age from Omega charts. Prolly a 501 caliber in a late ‘50’s early ‘60’s model. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
