You never know!

I stop by the local AD in every city I visit. The purpose is mostly to window shop, but I also hope to somehow get lucky by stumbling across a hard to find piece. After striking out several dozen times, my lucky day came earlier this week. I swung by a small city AD after finishing a business meeting. To my amazement, I found a Hulk sitting in the case!

The sales associate said it arrived the day before and confirmed it was for sale. I learned the owner's philosophy is to sell to folks who visit their store, generally on a first-come first-served basis. The idea is it helps them build a sustainable customer base.

After I assured him I was not interested in flipping the piece, he rang me up. He even included a Rolex branded cap and Titleist golf balls. So refreshing to come across an AD who does business that way and provides the type of experience you hope to receive when buying a luxury item.

This watch is mesmerizing and has to be experienced in the metal to be fully appreciated. I couldn't be happier.

I guess you never know!

congratulations, stories like this give the rest of us hope!

I was travelling in Amsterdam last week and on the Friday before (8th March) the Rolex boutique at Schiphol Airport had received 2 Daytona 116500 LNs. They don't operate waiting lists and it's first come, first served. They sold both almost immediately with 1 customer waiting incase the gentlemen's payment didn't go through.

2 customers left there very happy that day, and I wished I had got there a few days earlier

That’s a good find
Interesting perspective though...in your mind the AD did things the right way. Think about the local existing customers who have been trying to get this watch for months, and they sell it to some passer by! They might have a different opinion.
Just a different way of looking at it...with the current demand the AD is not going to please everyone .
Enjoy

Congrats! Aussie AD's could learn this business philosophy compared to there 'get lost' method.

That's a very fair point about the impact to locals and the AD situation as a whole.

I explained to them I live about two hours away and come to their city a few times a year for work.

Their read could have been: he's young, not a flipper, comes through town often enough and thus could be a decent prospect to try to develop a long term relationship with.

Yep. I think it’s great.
This forum has just been littered with posts knocking AD’s. They are in a tough spot and can’t seem to please everyone these days.
