I went to my local AD last week and had to open the door for myself. Despite having purchased an OP39 last year ...

I’m still trying to figure out the relevance of the ethnicity of the SA.
You lose credibility with me when you start a sentence with “the Mexican lady” or “the Jewish guy”.

Whilst you are of course generally correct, to be fair to the OP, his story did later quote the sales assistant as saying “i don't know why English people do that, in China we buy everything new, we don't believe in 2nd hand”. Given the encounter apparently took place in middle England that particular portion of the story makes more sense with the prior reference to her ethnicity.

Yes it has some relevance to the story so is allowable.

Is anyone else picturing the AD manager hiding in the back office during all this?

I tried wearing flip-flops in an Aussie AD once, they threw me in jail.

They are thongs down there.

Indeed! Little do they know I have a 4 watch collection. Apparently this makes no difference....

Honestly, I am amazed you get anything out of that shop, I cant remember the women's name in there but every time I have tried to get something, she has just annoyed me so much I walk out the shop. Obviously im pleased it has worked out for you though..

Another short and boring story...I went in there actually to enquire about a big bang a while again (perhaps 9 months) and she basically said dont bother buying one, buy a professional Rolex to which she added O...You need to go onto a 3 year waiting list...

I mean she is pretty much asking me to leave the shop right, I wonder if the owners of M and W know this sort of stuff??

Point taken. And I will assume that the OP is accurately recounting his novel attempt to charm the AD, and his talent as a conversationalist.

However, call me skeptical.

And on balance, my opinion is that unverified anecdotes which focus on immigration status, country of origin or ethnicity are ripe for stereotype perpetuation and fake news.

Substitute another country of origin or ethnicity for Chinese. Put a different alleged ethnic self characterization in the saleslady's repertoire, and imagine the possibilities.

Just my opinion.

Your skepticism is probably justified. I’m just throwing the OP, who increasingly looks like an expert troll given his continued absence, a small bone.

Fully agree. I think your analogy is perfect. I just don’t get why someone would walk into any shop and tell them that they’re gonna buy something from somewhere else and then throw out a flipper’s Christmas list and think that they’ll be treated as anything other than a “t@#t” My feelings maybe a bit bias though, since this sounds like my AD. The AD where even the security card shakes my hand, when he sees me. The same AD where I have been offered all the hard to get watches that I want and without a single PM or expensive jewellery purchase, and no ties with relations, etc.
Just a great relationship that started just before all the crazy hype (2016).

I've never been so insulted in my life when they suggest buying product they have in stock.

One time I went to my local Porsche dealer and I was looking at 911s. When I told the salesperson I already had one and how good I was at buying them he seemed to not want to talk to me anymore. This was an outrage I can't live with.

Then finally I went to the butcher and I was looking at UDSA Prime NY cuts, chatted with the butcher a bit and then I told him his price was way too high and I can go to Safeway (Tesco eq.) and get chuck steak for $1.99/lb. He immediately switched to another customer. I've never been so insulted!

ROFL.

This is true! That is why if you ask someone of Chinese descent what time it is, they will generally respond with, "Uh, it is somewhere between two and three pm."

It's a rough week when you get owned by a Chinese sales lady and your a$$ handed to you by the forum in a span of three days. I'd suggest staying home in bed with the lights out, computer off and blankets pulled up over your head the rest of the weekend.
