15400 blue - scratched AR coating on crystal
Hi all,
I think I have scratched the AR coating on the crystal on my 15400, I bought this watch in December (not from a boutique) and am fine with the normal day to day wear and tear on the watch...but I'd like my crystal to be perfect. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do here? I still have 5 years remaining on the warranty, not that that matters in this case but I'm not sure what the requirements are for AP to even accept the watch for service at all. Does anyone have an idea on what replacing/polishing something like this would cost? In addition... curious to see what you all think about the current condition of the watch after being worn appx 4x times week since the last week of Dec 2018 until now. Can anything be done with these scratches on the bracelet? Pics below pic01_26.jpg d235206e-454c-4759-80b3-461931ac67d1_27.jpg pic02_27.jpg Thank you! |

Scratches happen. Just wear it and enjoy it until its time for service. A light polish and new crystal and it will be like new again.
If its a light scratch (that you cant feel with your fingernail) I have had success with other watches with diamond paste and a dermel. Taking a dremel to an AP...I would probably leave it or if it really bothers you then bite the bullet and send it in. |

I have a 15400 silver dial. I wear mine 1-2x per week and the crystal is perfect. In terms of your band, I think it is pretty solid but I would recommend getting a day to day watch if you are planning on wearing the watch so frequently going forward.

I swapped the bracelet for a rubber strap. Makes life considerably less worrisome, but not 100% obviously...

I don’t yet have such scratches on the bracelet of my RO, but just try to remember that the scratches are only visible up close and when the bracelet is at rest. It still looks absolutely amazing to everyone when they see it on your wrist.

I had a crystal scratch on an old AP I had, bothered me a bit but not too much and sold it on, if this is a keeper I'd send it to AP now, don't think it would cost much to replace crystal or repolish it.

Unfortunately they are scratch magnets - just wear and enjoy and when it looks really beat up get it polished by AP.

I think it looks great with a little wear. No way I drop $1k plus to make it look brand new so soon after purchase. It will be right back to same condition if you actually wear it!

Rubber strap is not the solution! The solution is not buying an AP if you are not ready to get some scratches on it.
Come on, this bracelet is the most beautiful of the whole industry and you would replace it for a piece of rubber, for the only justification of not getting it scratched?! What's the point of having the bracelet stored in a safe/drawer... I do not get it. |

For me, the only reason to care the scratches is I want to sell it at a better price.
However, I would tell myself I shall accept the loss of money since I'd like to enjoy wearing it freely. Make sense? |

thanks all.. im not really worried about the bracelet scratches, but the crystal is another story. Does anyone know what the cost would be to have the crystal buffed rather than replaced by AP?

Don't know the cost to get crystal professionally buffed but have read about using high quality diamond paste to DIY
