Submariner; same maxi case, same movement, no changes!

With all the speculation and wishful thinking amongst some here regarding smaller lugs, updated movement, new colors and Platinum, what are your thoughts as to the status quo...at least for another year?

Good news as to the super (not maxi) case.

2025 for the SS models

We still have 31xx movements in YM1 (I don't count the YM42), Exp2, Exp1, Milgauss, OP, AirKing and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more that will get before the Sub.

I bought one and sold a couple of years ago, no regret. definitely not a fan of the maxi case. I was hoping for a redesign with thinner lugs too ...

Why mess with perfection! I love the sub as is! Even though I expected a new movement and maybe a blue bezel

I keep seeing people don't like the larger lugs on the current submariners, but I own one and love everything about it. I also noticed that the larger lugs may come in handy during polishing/servicing in a decade or two as there is more metal to work with

At least the DS Challenge's size is a result of its function. Can't say that about the SD43, even though I do really like the watch.

I ordered a SubC date about 10 days before Basel. Now I know I will receive the 116610LN. And that's okay with me.

All YM1s have been upgraded to the 3235. It was a quiet rollout, but check the website. All currently available GMTs are all upgraded now, too. So now we have two recent precedents for the length of time it takes to complete a rollout: GMT took two years; YM was all done in a single season. Also, YM42 aside, the YMs had no changes to the case or dial (except for the coronet at 6:00), so Rolex is clearly willing to simply drop a movement into an existing model with no additional changes.

Upgrading the Exp. II seems highly unlikely prior to the 50th anniversary in 2021. That leaves next year as a potential window for the Sub, unless you're right that Rolex wants to complete every other sports line before tackling the Sub.

All that said, I'm not predicting anything. I'm out of that business.

I would have liked to see a 50th anniversary Sub Date. But I am glad they did not slim down the case or lugs.

As long as it says "Submariner", Sub die-hards will take whatever Rolex tosses at them in their own sweet time.

Well, as far as function goes there is no need for a watch that goes to 4000 feet (5000 feet since Rolex tests dive watches to 25% over pressure). The deepest commercial dives on record are around 2000 feet and those days are over with ROV's doing the majority of deep work. It's just too much hassle to send humans to those depths and back. A few days of saturation diving at over a 1000 feet add up to weeks of decompression/yada. Most commercial divers could do an entire career with a sub since most of their diving is 200 feet or less. But when you are working for Shell or Exxon or whomever, you are not using a watch to time your dive. Might wear one for a souvenir. Those guys are using complex gas mixtures with custom decompression tables.

a bit boring

i was expecting at least new movement

slimmer lugs would have been nice

i was secretly hoping for a SS Sub - blue dial and bezel. Not exactly a SS smurf but SS blue Sub (different shade of blue from the smurf)

I was hoping they would bring out a Submariner Mix and Match box set. It would include the watch, 5 different color interchangeable bezels to suit your mod, and three strap options an Oyster a Jubilee and an Oysterflex.

Think of the hours of fun you can have trying out all the possible combinations, one truly versatile watch that will suit any and all occasions!

I think the current Sub is perfect the way it is, wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the YM 1

I'm so glad they didn't mess with it's sizing. That said, what the heck is the point of having one 42mm YM while the rest are 40mm?
