2nd Pam in 2 weeks: Pam 422

I'm just enjoying myself now. Newly found passion with this brand. The 422 has all the great elements of history and innovation, while maintaining its sleekness, quality, and overall masculine stoicness. The 422 is a superb addition to my collection. Seeing it next to my 332, Deepsea, Bluesy, and 1968 Datejust, I have the beginnings of a solid collection.

Panerai is just solid.

There are several things that are alluring to me for the brand now:

1) The hype is gone. I generally do not follow trends, and when the hype around Panerai was sharply rising about a good 10-12 years ago, I watched very closely. Seemingly, it would never die down, but it did.

2) In-house. Once the brand went towards in-house movements, I started to pay much more attention to it. It meant that the brand was willing to differentiate itself aside from what the market was initially dictating: size, clarity, history, and insider mystique. RISKIER proposition, but in the end it sold me.

3) History. The history of the watch itself is fascinating. It was practically (from what I understand of my limited knowledge) an extremely under the radar, purpose driven tool. So much so that they had (from what I understand) a military contract from the 1950's-1990's to subsist on, until that contract expired. That piece of history alone is alluring for me, because it reminds me of another military brand that I am passionate about: Randall Made Knives. The MILITARY aspect of the watch itself, in terms of design, means that it is purpose-driven. Although I have great respect and admiration for other houses (Rolex, JLC, AP, Patek in particular), I am frankly rather infatuated with the idea that Panerai has a substantial amount of military DNA in it.

4) Design: So sleek, very rugged, but classy all at the same time. Functional, durable, yet completely unique.

5) Innovative and WIDE selection: I know some have said that if you have seen one Panerai you have seen them all, but I beg to differ. I believe that depending on the Paneristi's personality and purpose, each model has something unique to offer. It can be conservative, but it can also be bold. It can be traditional, but also unique.

Enjoying this brand, and my two new acquisitions, with a passion and richness I have not experienced in a long time. :)

Thanks Nick! Love that photo of your collection. We DO have similar tastes! I'm enjoying both tremendously right now. In terms of my next one, I'm quite passionate about the 614, 580, 508, and the 532.

Thank you Cru! 422 is the perfect Panerai for me. It embodies its ideals. I love the 332 because it serves my purpose, but the 422 embodies what I love about the brand - history, inventiveness, sleekness, precision, ruggedness. The 47mm size is perfect for me.

Thank you everybody! If I were to have only one Panerai, it would be the 422: perfect balance of elegance, robustness, and innovation. It is an involving watch also, in terms of the experience, because the manual wind forces you to look at the power reserve...which makes you look at the clear case back. For me that is a nice touch because the design urges you to enjoy the whole watch and the craftsmanship that went into it.

Although I have my eye on several other models to add to my collection...this one will be very hard to top.
