Yes it is. I talked to a Rolex Rep about it at my AD. This is the last year. There will be no SD's beyond M

He also mentioned some other interesting items others might be interested in: 1. The WG Ceramic Sub will hit the market first as they want to deplete the existing YG Black Subs (without the ceramic) first. 2. The DSSD will be in short supply this year, but expected not to be in short numbers the following year.

Rolex announces what's new and what is discontinued in April at Basel every year and the Deep Sea Sea Dweller is replacing the current SD model.

My AD in Devon was less sure but thought that they would still be available into next year.

I think there will still be SDs available unless they're snatched up by speculators wanting to flip them.
Sometimes, certain models stick around for awhile. For instance, I just found 2 14060Ms (Non-COSC) at the same store a few days ago and imagine that the same will be true for SDs well into next year. Just look at this site for all of the debate about buying a SD, i.e. cuff fit, extra height or weight, etc.... As I said, I think that the SDs scarcity will come from speculators more than from actual buyers who will wear the watch. |

It'll be available
for a long time especially with the slowing in economy in US. But discounts will be harder to get.

My AD just ordered one from Rolex New York for me. I still don't have it in hand but should by Saturday. I did get discount.
So, AD's may not have them - but, seems like they can get them if they want/need to. Also Ben Bridge (huge U.S. retailer) has a 12 month no interest "sale" this time of year" Seems like they try to stock up on any model that might be popular - hot... I have been in several BB over the past 2 - 3 months. I would say 4 out of 5 had an SD in their case available for purchase. BB does not do much discounting from what I hear. So, I am not convinced as of now that they are difficult to get - They are not hard to get in my part of the world. GMTIIc is also readily available nearly everywhere here - But, from posts on this forum they seem to be much more scarce in other parts of the world. So, I think it varies widely depending on region?

I talked to an AD here in KC and he was more worried about keeping the Sub date in...not the SD. He told me if I wanted a sub date better make up my mind fast they don't last long in his store??!! Maybe he was just wanting to move the sub and not the SD...I dunno.

If you went where I think you did, he is probably correct. I recently purchased my sub date there. At first I was looking at his preowned, but he only had two. One was a safe queen that was only a little cheaper than new. So I got his then last new.

I believe I read an article in WatchTime magazine recently that mentioned the SD had been discontinued FWIW..

When I purchased my SD about 2 weeks ago, I was told by the AD they had 17 units left for their 80 store chain. They were not expecting any more after they sold the 17 units. Maybe true, maybe sales talk.

What is the exact year of the last Sea-dweller? (ex: circa 2008)
I'm guessing it will be worth more than a few years before it, since it's the LAST year of production... |

nobody knows, I've just bought today a 16600 V serial (2008-09) with bracelet from october 2008 (PJ10), so my guess is that they are still manufactured

Quite correct and until you hear it direct from Rolex and not by hear say, the SD in my book is still in production.

Cannot see why the only difference with any SD since 1988/9 is now non lug hole case and a different case date stamp. And world wide still V case date stamps around in 2009.
