No. I think it will cheapen the content. I like that many TRF threads create discussion.

@Brandrea - do you know how much fun we'd have calling out @TheVTCGuy for his Tumi collection and asking @BreugetRolex for copies of receipts?!

Solid comments from many, well done.

Some observations simply as a personal takeaway:

1. A ‘like’ button seems divisive, why? Would a quick reaction/response shortcut really cause damage or ruin the ‘experience’ of some here?

2. Many seem to associate a forum ‘like’ button in the same manner as Facebook uses it as an informational gathering tool. Why is that? Because I don’t think that’s set up to be so.

3. Some of those who speak of ‘meaningful’ discussions don’t really participate in that many discussions at all. Let alone meaningful. Come to think of it, what’s a ‘meaningful’ discussion? One person’s meaningful could be IBTL and another about a kidney stone (boo-ya! )

4. Post counts. Who cares? Some are simply going to be a lurker/taker while others also a contributor. Are the obvious bs ‘Watchouts’ meaningful or do we allow them to play out because it’s fun? I don’t know. But I will say we could dump all post counts altogether because this forum doesn’t = posts with anything last I checked. Unless we get a $500 Cheesecake Factory gift card at 50k. Then I want the counts to stay.

5. What else?

Just to be clear, when I referred to post count I wasn't referring to the individual's ongoing post count since joining. That is irrelevant. I've been in some forums for 15 years and have thousands of posts, and others for the same length of time but only hundreds. It's a meaningless number.

I was referring to the number of actual posts in a thread. Some threads can literally be hundreds of posts long. With other forums, a like button let's you agree with anyone's individual comment but not have to add another post to do so, which adds inches of space on a scrolling page.

No big deal. Carry on...

If I'm involved, it'll probably be a 'Like, but as a friend' button.

Sadly this forum is getting more like one of those so called social media sites each day,it once was a fantastic forum about the history of the brand and watches and no need for likes or anymore more of this SM stuff.

At least this required pressing 6 keys instead of one button Peter.

I may do this as we move forward.

I think this question is divided between those on Insta and FaceTube etc and those who are not, and those who are not, like me, see it as purely a happy short cut.

Have to agree but afraid thats long gone now especially over the past 5-10 years or so now, many rely on the likes of so called social media to do the thinking for them. As many have lost the use of there own brain, I sometime wonder today how some remember they got to breath without the aid of a app and the rest of todays toys.

All information supplied from my own 79 year old brain power, without the aid of, like buttons, social media, loupes, nicknames, timegraphers, alignment points, protective film,AD relationship building, investment £$€ stuff, special cleaning cloths, phone apps, and the rest of todays Rolex watch toys.

Like.

I agree.

I’m with you.

Well played.

X2.

Just kidding Pete.

But as you can see we don’t need a like button.

But we do need the ignore function.

Plus more talk about watches and less about liking.

And I have sometimes been guilty as charged.

As long as it is only likes/thanks and not the dislikes/groans then I would be ok with it. Otherwise it will cause a lot of toxicity.

I see no value in adding a "likes" feature. Have something to contribute or not. Period.
