Is anyone bothered by the Speedmaster bracelet taper?
Tried on the latest Speedmaster Moonwatch on SS yesterday and really noticed the significant taper of the bracelet. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it goes from 20mm at the case all the way down to 15mm at the clasp. I found it really noticeable. It is a very comfortable bracelet, no doubt, but I have to say in my warped mind it felt sort of dainty, especially near the clasp. Sort of felt like a dress watch rather than sport. Any thoughts one way or the other on the new bracelet taper?

Yes I felt the same way. I even considered one of the new moonshine gold models but couldn’t get the bracelet taper out of my head.

I don’t own the 3861 caliber but I do own the 321.
It tapers from 19mm at the lugs to 15mm at the clasp. It wears beautifully but I wouldn’t say dainty. What I do notice is that the flat links on the 321 are “thinner” in profile to my oyster bracelets and maybe a touch thinner than the jubilee. I think it’s suitable to this reference and the vintage vibe. I know that’s not exactly what your were referring to, but I figured I’d just chime in with some feedback comparing to the 321 |

It's a very nicely made bracelet but it is a bit lady like in this respect.

Everyone wants the seamaster bracelet to taper. Now you guys want the speedy to not taper. . It is true that Omega needs to work on its bracelets, though I like the Speedy one.

This is exactly where I'm at. I'm a 20-to-18 kind of guy. 20-to-16/17 I can probably live with. 15? Hmmm not so sure...

I really like the new bracelet design, significant improvement from the previous gen in my opinion. It's very much like an oyster vs. jubilee feel. That said, I totally get some opinions on the overly drastic taper on the new bracelet. But I wonder if that feeling is also a result of an overall significantly 'lighter' wearing experience with the new speedy bracelet? Having owned the previous gen and owning the new gen (albeit for a short time) it's a completely different wearing experience...new one wears much lighter on the wrist. Feels dressier. Not a bad thing, but wears differently...again, very much like how a BLNR/BLRO wears on oyster vs. jubilee. |

I was impartial at first until I tried it on at the boutique. It's so much more comfortable and makes the watch wear so much better on my wrist. I now have the brushed version fitted to my previous gen Sapphire Sandwich (1863). + I like the a brushed look much more.

Agree on the dressier feel of the new Speedys. As you point out, the new bracelet seems similar to moving from oyster to jubilee with Rolex. Beautiful bracelet and comfortable, but I'm not sold on that taper just yet. |

Haven’t tried the latest version in my Boutique Mike but at least the 3861 version felt fine. Don’t think an extra mm thinner would make much of a difference really Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Loved the watch, and the bracelet, but definitely too much taper.

I recently picked up a white chronoscope. Pretty sure it has the same bracelet only I think it starts at 21. I rather like it, it’s different but in a good way.

It is a little more tapered than I like, but very comfortable. Almost as comfortable as my Pepsi.

I like the taper and the way it wears very much. Going back to my 1st gen Planet Ocean, though it does taper a bit, it's too chunky and thick, I just can't do it any more after wearing the Speedmaster. The planet ocean is now on either a NATO or 1 piece elastic strap (for now).
I have smallish wrist and I prefer dress watches over sports watches... so that may factor my preferences. |

Agree with this. I owned the previous version, and the difference in comfort is really noticeable. It wears VERY similar to my Datejust 41.

Yea seemed very slim at first, but I got used to it. Now seeing the older untapered bracelet is a turn off

The taper, combined with the small links IS what makes it so comfortable and great!!!
One of the best bracelets I've ever worn!! Blows my Submariner one out of water comfort wise Sent from my SM-A415F using Tapatalk |

The taper is a great feature that I'm glad they have brought back.
I don't like unnecessarily fat bracelets or clasps wrapped around my wrist. Since they've trimmed the bracelet back down on the Speedy Pro, I am seriously looking at picking up a fully optioned up Saphire version for the first time ever. |

I love the current bracelet, much more so than the 1861.

Is anyone bothered by the Speedmaster bracelet taper?
I just picked up the Moonshine Gold rubber strap today & it has a similar amount of taper.

Yep. Just wish I could delete the logo but it's not a big deal.

I thought it felt a bit dainty when I first got my 3861, was used to wearing a SubC and SMP300. After wearing it for almost a year now I really enjoy it, bracelet and all. I'm planning on buying the rubber strap for it, which I think will make me like the watch even more.

The taper makes it look very up to date and more comfortable. The bracelet is mint.

Glad to read these positive replies. Sounds like once your mind gets used to seeing such a tapered bracelet, you begin really prefering it for the added comfort and lack of bulk.
