The moral is; don’t buy watches in central London. Bond Street for goodness sake. And best avoid chains too. Independents try harder.

I think the UK is being cleared out of stock by overseas buyers (again) with the recent large fall in GBP.
Not surprised the Bond St staff are like that.

No excuse though. Exactly what you would expect in That London*.

If you come to the capital (Manchester) people are much friendlier.

Note.
*London is not really a city. Just a few villages next to each other.

Actually this is a very real issue.

I have no idea how people could read his breathless wall of text in its entirety (I sure didn't), nor how could people not be informed of the very existence of commas in the first place (it's part of the primary school curriculum - did OP not attend primary school ?).

Isn’t it ironic that the op starts a thread about people being rude using some of the language he (?) does.

Great example to people reading the forum!

I visited both the Mappin and Webb and the Rolex store Bond street in mid July, and the staff were great with me. No watches, though.

Perhaps it's just you.

The person who made the comment lives in the UK so clearly knows that London is on the same island. It’s like an American not knowing that New York was in the USA.

The point was that the post generalised rudeness of “UK ADs” based on a London experience. London is not known for its friendliness, where as head north and in general, things get friendlier the further north you go. Again some generalisations but that’s the general point

The point was made that London doesn't represent the whole of the UK in terms of AD rudeness. If you go up North like Manchester, you might get a better welcome.

We all know London is in the UK lol

When on Bond Street, visit Wempe instead. Great service in there.

From my experience the U.K. dealers have always been very polite and friendly. The one thing that they all stipulate, is they want to sell watches to local people. I agree in principle to this, as it helps to stop flippers going around the country getting all the hard to find pieces.

Last year l purchased a DSSD Blue 126660 from this Bond Street branch in May
with no buying history with this shop, this was my second Rolex watch l had
purchased my first one a SD4K 116600 in 2016 from the WOS in Regents Street.
In 2017 l paid a deposit for a DSSD Blue 116600 at the Bond Street boutique and
waited and l would like to add that the times l would drop in l always found the staff
highly professional especially lvan who was my main point of contact.

the last time i was in they refused to even consider selling me a Pt daytona. automatically said its a year wait.... they do have other stores all over the UK. One of the other WOS locations found one in a week for me.
Yes,, that square mile around Old and New Bond st just seems to gravitate
rudeness,,,
My WOS ad are so very nice unlike the above,,

I never appreciated what other people now have to do to get a Rolex. Gone are the good ole days when all you had to do was buy the watch out of the AD’s case.

I guess the OP weighed the cost / benefit of paying a grey a premium versus the ‘licking’ and made the choice he made.

Not for me, but hey, whatever floats his boat.

So conceptually it is about the desirability of the watch that would determine your willingness. Interesting tid bit
