What is your favorite 5 digit reference?

Hi all,

I personally think that 90-00s was the golden era of Rolex watches. The watches lived in that period bring you the best of both worlds and they are the most balanced design Rolex ever created. With that being said, what is you favorite neo-vintage 5 digit reference? (Sport models only)

The 5 digit reference series is such a lovely sweet spot of Rolex collecting!

imo-
4 series = proper tool watch
5 series = elegant & refined tool, bordering on jewelry
6 series = proper jewelry

You've no option for "Datejust", "Day-Date" or "OP".

Not all of us are young people wanting everyone to see our watches from meters away. I'm 59, for example. I don't dive, my job doesn't take me into severely magnetized areas, I'm not traveling at the moment (haven't, really, since COVID)... no need or want for any "sports" models.

Add the classic Rolex designs and ALL the posters can vote! Or retitle the thread to reflect that you're most interested in scarcity or hype

OP did title the thread as “Sports Models” and included those “professional” models in the poll, not the classic models like the Datejust, Day-Date, etc.

I am not sure 5-digits fall into the same hype category as some might place the current 6-digit models.

Completely agree. 5 digits were the pinnacle IMO.

Favorite reference however is the 16600

And the current 124270 is so similar perhaps it’s the only ‘5 digit’ in the current line up.

For there is only one and thats the 16600 SD a real working tool that served me well for many years working underwater as PADI/BSAC instructor and dive guide.

Very similar in appearance, but I’m referring to the older 5 digit bracelet and clasp from the 114270.

Saying that, I’d take a 124270, with the 3130 movement I have in my 114270. That would be a fantastic combination.

Prefer the aesthetic of the White Gold marker surrounds on all 5 digit references.
