You know, Omega does such a good job telling the Speedmaster story if you go into an Omega Boutique. They tell you all about the Apollo mission, NASA selecting the Speedmaster, the timing of the 14 seconds on Apollo 13, etc.

I never knew all this stuff about the GMT!

That is was the Official watch of Pan Am Airlines. that is so cool. Pan Am was the top in the 1950's and 60's.

Seems like the whole connection to the X-15 could be explored which was the baddest aircraft ever flown. - Fastest pilot's watch to ever fly!

And if you let Omega tell the story you would think no other watch has ever gone to space. This is the first time I have ever heard that the GMT went to space - twice - on Apollo 13 and 14! So it is a "space watch". I would like to know more about both missions.

Great vid!

Did Jim Lovell wear his GMT on his space mission? I have seen pics of him wearing it at young age as astronaut and also as the older man now. Could never find any comment that would confirm or deny it.

Yes, I have seen that picture. I even saw one where he was wearing his gmt after or before his last gemini mission (on an old press conference). But not in flight... maybe nobody knows, exept mr Lovell himself...

Strangely, Rolex now says the GMT started in 1955, not 1954 as widely known and written in media.
So then next year it will be the 70th anniversary....
So, I have a BLRO and I was born in 1955. Maybe I will keep it.
