I am a *huge* fan as you maybe can tell. My Speedmaster was my only watch from 1997 to 2008 when I finally bought a Rolex GMT. I wear the GMT most days now because I need the date function but the Speedmaster is the watch I identify with most.

Only gold holds its value, so forget about a watch as an investment.
All watches continually depreciate with the exception of a tiny minority that have historical value. I have an historically significant Rolex that has appreciated in dollars but depreciated in value. I can sell it for twice as much as I paid for it, but those dollars will buy me only half as much. I think, of all the watches in your price range, no other watch has the presence and liquidity of a Speedmaster Pro. If and when you need to sell it to put beans on the table, you can. Buy the simplest Speedmaster, the one closest to the original. If I wanted that watch (and I do) I would put it on the rounded-end shark band posted by Speed. Very smart and rich looking. |

I have always wanted the moon watch since I was a kid... Still going back and forth between the original and the 3573.50 model. I like to be able see the mechanical movement.

I just sold my 3570.50 after owning it for six months. I realize mine will be the minority opinion, but I didn't like it. I missed the date feature too much and quickly grew VERY tired of the manual wind.
All of my other watches have a date feature and I found every time I was wearing the 3570.50, I'd look at it for the date out of habit, then have to reach for my iPhone. Obviously not a complete deal breaker, but it was enough of an annoyance for me that I stopped wearing the watch, and the manual wind just seemed silly after a while. On the plus side, I got a nice deal on it on one of the boards and when I decided to sell it, it sold quickly for 100% of what I had into it. They have quite a following and are very easy to sell. I have a co-axial Speedy on the way and with the larger case, automatic movement and date feature, I am hoping it will be the ultimate Speedy. Again, just my opinion. |

A little 'backward' pressure on the winding stem will stop the movement while you sync the second hand.

I fully agree that the lack of a date feature is the main reason why I don't wear the Speedy every day. I wear it on my holidays though...and on weekends sometimes.
The manual wind on the other hand was a bit of a plus for me. For 11 years my daily ritual included a morning wind of my Speedmaster and for those of us who appreciate a little consistency in our lives, this watch fits the bill very well. Even if I did miss a day, I wouldn't know it because a fully wound Speedmaster willl run for 2 days. I have of course forgotten to wind the Speedmaster after wearing the Rolex for an extended period, but the opposite is true also. I sometimes strap on the Rollie and think I should be winding it first. Long story short, the manual wind is just one of the Speedmaster's charms IMO.

Will anyone recommend the Apollo11 special edition Speedmaster Pro?
The AD wants full retail for that watch. However, I am sure getting the 3570.50 or 3573.50 will be less than retail... |

I've owned a dozen or so Speedy Pros including a "sapphire sandwich" and several LE's. I too love the display back (both of mine have them) but buying new today, I would have to go with the basic 3570.50. It is the classic. My favorite of the modern Speedies in the 3572.50 (hesalite/sapphire). Although unfortunately discontinued, nice examples are to be found pre-owned. It doesn't have the gray halo along the bezel like the sapphire crystal. Plus it has the correct wording on the back. But regardless of the configuration, no other watch has the history and mystery of the Speedy Pro. Every collection should have one. Fr. John† |

Well, I think it's a little silly to sell a watch because you don't want to wind it every couple of days. What does it take, 45 seconds? The lack of a date function would be more of an issue for me, but certainly not a deal breaker. With computers, cell phones and the like everywhere, it's not hard to keep track of the date. The 3750 remains on my short list of watches to acquire.

Personally I would get the White faced Speedmaster Date on Cordura fabric.
Not the classic Speedy, but the still gorgeous. http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/sp...32332404004001 |

I can't add much different than you've already seen, but I will put in another vote for the fact that the Speedy Pro can be worn regularly without a problem. It is a great watch than can be dressed up or down, as the occasion dictates.
