Oyster Quartz DJ shock resistance

I'm looking at buying my dad an OQ DJ for his birthday. He's on the golf course every day and I know he'd be worried about damaging the watch playing golf, which means he probably wouldn't wear it much.

Is the OQ relatively shock resistant for something like a golf swing?

Apparently Rolex discourages wearing your watch while playing golf, but I would think an OQ would be the most durable because you are not dealing with a balance wheel and escapement.

I know Seiko used to specifically include literature with watches recommending not to golf with them on. Apparently, it's not good clean swings that cause damage; it's the miffed shots. You know the weird, tingly vibration the golf club sends emanating through your wrists and hands when you get a nice chunk of the ground? Not good for the watch. I miff way too many shots to consider wearing a nice watch golfing

There are a zillion people who will say "I golf all the time with no problems" and there are plenty of watchmakers who say they've seen several watches damaged by golfing.

To answer your question, yes, an Oysterquartz would handle golfing better than an automatic. Sounds like a great choice!

Two different issues, IMO.

Get the watch for your dad...great gesture, by the way.

Tell him to leave it at home or in his bag when he plays. Problem solved.
