Does this matter bother you?
we all know that rolex is a top high end brand of watches. however there are other brand aswell such as my favourite Patek Phillipe, AP, Gerald Genta, Vacheroun, and many more.. now the difference between these comapnies is that Rolex is the ONLY mass producer of watches in the high end brand since rolex produces around 700,000-900,000 watches per year where as other companies only produce around 25,000 per year like AP does or around 35 thousand..
now my question is. does this matter bother you? when u wear a watch do u think that so many of this exact watch im wearing have been produced ? i hope this thread hasent been posted before.. and if it has im sorry.. just something i wanted to u from all u great TRF members out there |

It does not bother me, at all!
What matters for me is the quality, be it Rolex, be it Patek or VC. Rolex watches might be "mass procuced" but Rolex does one helluva good job considering that so many Rolex watches are made per year. In fact, I have a friend who has a Patek Nautilus, and he has had nothing but trouble with that watch, from bad timekeeping to dial flaws. I think you would have a hard time finding a watch that is SO precise, so well-made down to the tiniest detail like Rolex is. Yes, Patek might make PRETTIER movements but that does not mean that they are as precise and sturdy as the Rolex movements are.

Nope. I wouldn't care if every single person on earth was issued a Rolex (or anything else I like). If I like it, I like it and I'm going to use it.
One of the most ironic aspects of our society today is that people who want to be unique just for uniqueness sake are more under control of the status quo than those of us who might be similar / have similar taste to others, but live the way we want. In other words, if you like a watch, buy it. Don't concern yourself with how many other people have one. |

Not one bit. It's what I have and what I want. The numbers don't matter one bit.

This doesn't bother me at all. I seem to be located in a Rolex "dead zone" as I see very few Rolexes in this part of the world (central Illinois). I think the agricultural culture around here doesn't really embrace high end watches. The old farmers around here are too tight with their money to spend any of it on a Rolex. LOL In fact, I often wonder where all those Rolexes go every year. They certainly don't end up around here. Perhaps the middle east, asia, and the more urban centers in the US buy up the vast majority of them.
But...........even if I saw a Rolex on every other person's wrist, it wouldn't bother me. I just love the watch and that's all that counts for me. |

Never been big on exclusivity myself so no, does not bother me. When I handel a Rolex I know I have a top shelf watch, as much as I love Breitling and Omega they just don't compare on the quality level. Rolex always seemed like a great value entrey into the great watch club.
That said those are excellent watches you listed. Particularly VC, love their Overseas watch!!! |

It amazes me that Rolex can make as many watches as they do and still maintain the quality they do. It is a testament to Rolex's exacting specifications and quality assurance that they can pull it off. Sorta like the Microsoft of the watch business. And Rolex might be the best marketing company that I have ever studied. That all said, the people who work for Rolex can be real azzpains to reason with, and they leave a lot to be desired at the humility level. As to caring about how many Daytonas are out there, I could care less. I have two, and they are as good as any other one that has been made by Rolex.

It matters a little to me, as I tend to favor smaller manufacturers. However, I do also love Rolex and Omega and I don't shy away from them when they have a model I like, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy for that reason alone although it would be a small consideration. The advantage of Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Cartier, is that they have well established networks for maintenance and repairs and they also tend to be reasonably priced (at least compared to other smaller brands).

know what you mean, as a WIS i'm surprised by my passion for Rolex. Why not some of the other brands you mention. Because for me the style of the oyster case, technical details of the crown, orginal syle of the sub/sd greatly appeals to me. I also like the fact that the overall style of my SD has been around for many many years and is not a fashion fad or trend. When I was in the city on Saturday, i looked at some of the catalogues offered by some of the other manufacturers you mentioned, and i do wish Rolex would upgrade there sales brochures. Many of them went into lot of very interesting info.

Sometimes it bothers me that Rolex churn out so many watches yet manipulate supply and demand so I had to go to 6 different ADs before finding my Sub
Still, I wouldn't swap for anything else. There is so much that surrounds Rolex - like this forum for example Great question Thani
