Grand parents Omegas

After 25+ years of asking I finally got given some of my Grand Parents Watches. They were the two closest people to me in the world and I had been asking my uncles about the watches (including a few Rolex's) and they do not wear any of them. These were sitting in a small box wrapped in tissue for the last 2 decades +.

They will need full service and restoration work done and I am planning to use omega service center and Miami and for my grandmas omega an independent specialist in PA.

Wow, excellent and glad you're having them serviced. Did the same with mom and dad's matching OMEGA Dynamic timepieces they purchased new in Switzerland back in 1970. You have some wonderful keepsakes there for sure.

Absolutely. It’s emotional wearing them. I have put them away now for March when I go to the states and send them to omega.

Yes Sir. Will be packing them up as soon as I get to the states in March and shipping them off to Miami.

Thanks so much everyone. I wanted to send them to omega Now but since I’m in bahrain I decided to wait till March when in state side. Then I can just overnight them to the Miami service location for eval and the job to be done.

Really stunning collection. It's a great idea to get some overhauling and restoration done. My experience with the official Omega service centers is that they will do a really nice job - just be sure to leave very specific instructions as to what you want done, and what you may want them to leave alone. I have had several vintage Omegas overhauled in the past few years, always through the Omega service sent out from my local Boutique, and they've always come back beautiful.

Very cool! I can only hope one of my descendants turns into a collector before it's time to pass my watches along.

I would be very wary of sending vintage watches to Bienne. I've seen many vintage come back after very, very expensive refurbishments that have not been sympathetic to vintage watch collecting standards.

Omega's service regime appears to be focused on making an old watch new again, rather than maintaining the originality of the piece.

An independent watchmaker who knows his way around vintage Omegas may be a better bet, both for the integrity of the watches and indeed your wallet.

Cheers

Desmond, Noted. I am planning to send the female watch to chronotec inc. what do you think?

I spoke to omega repair and service center in Miami and they said they only send watches older than 1945-50 to bein. They also said they can evaluate the watches for me in ten writing days and then send me a quote. After that I can give them the go ahead if I see fit. I might do that.

Bumping this up for some help.

I was wondering if someone can give me a recommendation for a trusted Omega authorized watchmaker so I can send my grand parents watches in for a service and clean. They have been sitting in a drawer for almost 35 years and do not work.

I was meant to send them to omega while I was in the states in March but Covid happened and the boutiques were all closed. I really don’t want to wait any longer as I would like to use the two men’s watches and the one women’s model can be used in the family. Thank you all in advance for your recommendations.

oh, and not sure the value of those but if they were up there, i'd be careful about proper service i.e. not changing parts randomly
if they are not so expensive pieces and you won't be selling, probably ok to settle for a qualified, reviewed service person.
just be careful. i took a vintage moser (not wort a ton) to my local watchsmith and he almost changed a bunch of parts before i stopped him.
