Does Panerai make a watch for me?

Been away from the forum for a while. Been content with my collection and not had time for watches but it is good to be back.

I’ve recently gotten intrigued by Panerai and am wondering which Panerai you would best recommend based on what I’m looking for (assuming they make what I want!)

>I want a dial with 12-3-6-9 on it
>Don’t mind whether Radiomir or Luminor, but if it’s a Luminor must be able to fit a bracelet
>Don’t mind “sandwich” or “sausage” dial
>I don’t mind what other functions are on the dial like small seconds, power reserve etc. or nothing at all
>However I want a clean looking dial, no 3rd party logos, I love the new Venti but not the fact that it has a web address on the dial
>Black or brown dial
>Budget about $10,000
>In warranty is preferred but will consider older watches as well

Sorry if this is a noob post, I’m completely new to Panerai

Thanks

Does Panerai make a watch for me?

I think it’s important to know if you have size limitations. A classic Panerai and an easy recommendation is a Pam 372 or it’s twin lefty Pam 557. But those are 47mm, which the iconic size for a Panerai but you have to be ok with the size. I think what I used to say on Panerai was this statement “all you need from Panerai is a Pam 372 and you are done.”

On Radiomir I like the California dial like the Pam 424 or Pam 249. (47mm cases as well) >>>> but this goes against your requirements of 12-3-6-9 dial

If you don’t like that case size , then there are plenty of recommendations on case size 45mm , that’s where the majority of watches are in the Panerai catalog .

Personally I wouldn’t recommend anything smaller than that on a Panerai

Good luck

Don’t get too focused on detail initially. Go and try on as many as you can. Each model fits differently, even with the same case type and size. I had my heart set on a Radiomir initially but a 44mm Luminor was the perfect fit, Bettarini initially and my keeper a 1950 case 233.

233 is a great choice. I have plenty of steel.....if you do too, a 317 or 335 ceramic for variety would be a great choice. Ive had all 3. The 335 remains.

For a base dial, there are many great ones, but start by looking at 000, 232, 372, 390, 587 or 663.

If you can pull off a 47mm, go 422 or 372

Just get a 233. Save yourself the time. It's a classic and the best modern Panerai with an inhouse movement at a perfect size. You're going to think you want a base model (which is completely fine), but there is something special about the Lumino 1950 case, manual wind, with domed crystal. It wears unlike almost any other Panerai.

I just recently purchased a 44mm Luminor 1312 that would work well with your wants. Check it out.

Echoing this loudly. I had my heart set on a Luminor 44m, but wound up with a 45mm Radiomir.

And it's absolutely true: even with the same case type & size, you'll find there's a serious difference in how the individual models will look on the wrist. I ended up with a 380, which looks small compared to a 609 on my wrist. Same style & diameter, different look due to the dial I guess.

Try them on, it's a large part of the fun :-)

Love my 1441. The Ceramic doesn't scratch easily. I'm moving on though, and thinking about my first Rolex. This one is under warranty until 2027.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the replies. Have been looking a lot over the last couple of days and decided I like the 372.

Have put on a bit of weight this year (haven’t we all) and I could now easily pull off a 47mm piece.

Any more opinions on this piece would be gratefully received.

Not to say I’m disregarding any suggestions, I’m keeping all in mind, just this is a watch I particularly like.

U really need to go to the boutique and try on as many as possible.

Don’t get caught up on any details at the moment.
Focus on trying on different case shape and sizes... and how it fits on ur wrist.

Once u narrow down the case and size, u can start looking at details like sandwich, second hand sundial, dial color, etc.

Chances are, u will end up with something different from what u thought u first wanted. Lol

Pics online are nice to look at, but obviously does not tell the whole story.

Good luck and have fun
