Friend of mine in Asia showed me couple of more pics on his phone. You know, AP’s typical formula, ceramic everything once they done with all precious metal

That would be incredible ! I’m sure it will be expensive and will only propel the valuation of the steel version.

yea that’s fair, we’ll have to wait and see. not that it matters much anyways, i wish i could get one but it’s not gonna happen regardless of the price being $55k or $100k

I miss the days when all major new releases came out at the same time (Basel / SIHH).

It's too hard to keep track of everything nowadays. And to stay aware of what's coming so I can inform my salesperson ASAP of what I'm interested in.

While this may be somewhat true, I'm still glad that A) it exists in case we want to splurge and B) the brand value continues to increase for AP.

The only real underlying problem is that all good releases continue to rely on the RO design language as opposed to having a large portfolio of different design languages. i.e. Sub/GMT + Daytona + Day Date for Rolex for Naut/Aqua + Dress Chrono + Calatrava, etc for PP.

Anyways, at this price point, I actually prefer to just have the OR version. But ultimately bottom line is that WG Chrono in the photo looks so amazing!!!!

I think you have the exact right perspective. There is part of me that actually gets upset with these types of releases. 98% of them are going to the same people. That doesn’t mean at all that those people aren’t deserving - far from the contrary in almost all cases. But, this is another model that will go to VVIPs and the rest magically find their way into the secondary market. I have to keep telling myself “one day” I’ll land a grail like this at retail, and I’m not about to sit and be grumpy about the situation. I’m going to admire the watch and I’ll live vicariously through those lucky enough to get one.

Despite the above, I’m damn glad it exists as well. It’s a work of art. Honestly, just the photo of it is mesmerizing. And being very selfish, I’m hoping to benefit from renewed attention on the Skeleton and hope the SS model rises even more. Given this market there is no reason to suggest it won’t.

I also agree with your assessment of AP - At the end of the day, it’s still all the Royal Oak. I know Offshores are garnering a lot of attention now as well, but at the end of the day that’s complete Royal Oak DNA. Maybe the Code will eventually take such a role in the AP lineup and give AP another model that will help solidify the awesomeness of the brand. I sure know they’re trying to make it happen...

I'm with you but I do understand the frustration for some people. Regardless, amazing release and can't wait for on the wrist pics for this amazing piece.

I think AP has shown us that the code has a lot of potential with the sonnerie, tourbillion and openworked model releases. Even upon launch of the code I really liked the perpetual calendar with the stars/ moonphase dial. I agree with you and others that the Code fits right in the niche between sporty / business casual.

Any opinion on how this ranks compared to the ceramic skeleton perpetual in terms of aesthetics?

I’d take the perpetual over this all day.
