I just swapped out my bezel insert and noticed that the Coke that I put in has thinner numbers than the black. (see photos) Also notice that the "4" on the black has serifs where the Coke "4" doesn't.

Is this a factor of the production year?? Assuming the black is original to my GMT II, it's a Z series.

Any help?

i'm no gmt bezel expert, but the black insert appears to be after-market.

i say that because i stock lots of photos of various models. all from different sources. call it my library of rolex knowledge. nothing i've seen appears to have numbers as thickly applied as the ones on your black insert. again, i'm no expert. i'm simply doing a visual comparison to what i know. there could have been a production year when inserts changed - rolex was notorious for variations in production coming from different facilities. cheers,

I wondered about that too. The black does seem to be thicker, but then the coke seems to be thinner than I've seen. I was told that the Coke was a genuine rolex insert. One thing is for sure, they are both aluminum and snap into the Bezel frame very precisely. They both have an anodized black back. I have a feeling they're both genuine, just happen to be the extremes of the spectrum of fonts.

I would certainly like more opinions on this one!

Larry you know that you have an after market bezel insert in your watch ?

These bezel inserts, probably, belong to different references

Thanks so much for chiming in! I certainly appreciate it.
You have the same varieties as I do, just maybe the vintages are reversed. The more I look around, the more I see that the all black bezels tend to have fatter numbers with serifed 4's. I have a feeling that my Coke bezel might be from an old 16700 although there is no sign of any fading, but it's just a hunch.

With all the finest details of GMT's analyzed to such tiniest degrees, I was a bit surprised that there hasn't been much if any discussion on these insert variations. (The jumbo numbers on the ceramic 116710 is a whole different discussion which has been made already.)

All 16700's, 16760's and 16710's, sapphire GMT's, use the same part number inserts..

Oddly enough, the part numbers are 315-16760-7 for the black/red, as the original GMT II only came in that color; 315-16700-6 for the pepsi, as the 16700 originally only came in Pepsi, and the 315-16700-1 for the basic black..

So, even though they will all fit the 16710, there is no part number associated with that reference..

Try your AD.

The UK ADs are much less fussy about replacing parts than the US ADs or RUSA.
