I have on 2 occasions....

my cousin who works finance in singapore showed up to a wedding in a diver, and then a stranger was wearing a RO chrono next to me at one of the free NY philharmonic performances in central park this summer (unfortunately he was a real pretentious A-hole)

+1

Besides a guy I know who is a moderator at a VC forum, I've only seen a VC in the wild once and that was more than 15 years ago.

I certainly have not seen APs with the frequency one sees Rolex, Cartier, Omega or IWC, but I have seen them in the wild, for example: at dinner during my honeymoon in Monte Carlo about 12 years ago a grey dial RO, in Carmel, CA 2 years ago a few ROOs, in Las Vegas this past October having brunch at the Wynn an older 2 tone RO and at a few casinos ROOs, and occasionally in Boston/Cambridge ROs/ROOs. I've only ever seen 1 other person wearing a Royal Oak while I was wearing one, and that was back in the early 90s when I had a 36mm RO Day-Date.

I see more ROOs, in the Middle East you see them every once and a while in certain places.

Lately, I saw 1 AP on the flight from Houston to London. British Airways, first class of course. Never seen AP in business class.

Also in this new year's eve, the table next to us had 3 people with ROO 42mm. Each person paid at least $1250 to be there.

I guess you will meet people with APs if you are in the right places. A youngish (30s to early 50s) crowd with a decent amount of money.

Three times:

* My girl and I were in Italy a couple of summers ago and I saw an older, very distinguished-looking gentleman sporting what appeared to be a vintage Royal Oak at a restaurant. Very cool.

* I spotted someone with a black or blue dial 15300 a couple of months waiting in a taxi queue at whatever airport I was at.

* Waiting in a security line at the Miami airport two years ago a guy behind me was wearing a ROO Panda.

I saw a guy in the elevator at the Aria in Las Vegas once. He was wearing a ROO Navy Themes. When I compliemented him on his watch, he looked at me funny until I told him I had a Safari.

My guess it took place in Beirut. I always see ROOs when I'm there.

I fly southwest airlines when going to vegas. I fly from Phoenix. The first class and business class I refered to was on intercontinental flights, 7+ hours. Let me see you fly an 11 hour flight in economy when the same day you arrive to your destination you have to be in on a meeting.

Hehe Yeah, in Beirut alright. Everyone is or at least pretends to be rich here.

Also I recently saw our tourism minister on a TV interview, rocking a 44mm FC, on a suit with cuff links and all.

Talking of APs in the wild, I wore my Panda dial last year to run the London marathon - I needed the chrono feature!

I've only ever seen two, a gold pride of Russia a friend (watch repairer) had changing its leather strap on to a rubber strap, Super rare!! and a silver rubber clad,(stunning piece) on a friends wrist who I hadn't seen in in years, funnily enough the weekend before I picked up mine! ... I've seen so many rolex watches I've lost count!
I really like that exclusivity

Only on a few occasions -

- AP Legacy on 2 different people at 2 different visits to a high end baby store in LA

- walking around Rodeo in Beverly Hills one afternoon - weather was great and the APs were out - Bumblebee, Trulli, 44mm FC, RC - all within 10 minutes and different groups of people

One time. Friend of a friend had a vintage RO gold/stainless 2tone. He had just gotten it back from servicing and he said it cost him a fortune to have serviced. I did not know much about AP at the time so I did not ask about specific model information.

For those mentioning VC, funny enough I was staying at the Ritz in Buckhead over Christmas and saw someone walking in wearing one. First time I'd ever seen one of those in the wild. I only identified it from the bracelet.

Now Rolex, Panerai, Omega, etc. I see almost every day and I live in a pretty small city (little over 200k people). I guess when you consider the difference in volume though w/ Rolex & Omega it's no wonder we see those everywhere. If Rolex makes 800k a year and AP makes 25k, in 13 days Rolex will have made all of AP's inventory for the year. My numbers could be way off but interesting thought.

Yes. HK is very much into Rolex. I saw a few policemen wearing submariner on different occasions. Even bus drivers are wearing rolexs. I'm not kidding! Serious! Panerai is getting very popular too.

As for AP, u have to go Central area. PP are pretty common sight too.

I have rarely see AP in the wild, until I started flying international for business. I have seen rose gold AP ROO, forge carbon AP ROO, and many AP RO in first class lounges in China. I would say that Rolex, Omega and Panerai are the most common luxury watches in Asia.

A guy noticed I was wearing an A. Lange & Sohne Langematik Perpetual, and when I looked at his wrist I noticed that he was wearing an AP! I don't remember where it happened though. Maybe I dreamt it...

Only a handful of times. Many at the Formula 1 Austin Grand Prix last November. Mexicans love AP.

Salute!

I can't imagine wearing such an expensive watch to run a marathon. Thinking of the weight itself puts me off...

I used to have a Garmin GPS watch that I used for running but one day, shortly after my wife gave birth to our son, I made the school boy error of firstly arriving home late from work and secondly informing her upon my arrival home that I was "off out for a six mile run". The following events are etched into my memory for life as my wife picked up my Garmin and launched it at the wall, it seemed like slow motion but can't have been as the watch was destroyed on impact.

I have since explained to my wife the difference between a £300 watch and a 20k watch and the effect on our marriage if she had picked up the wrong one!

The Panda actually worked out quite well but I plan to buy another Garmin for this years London marathon.
