FWIW I have never clicked with the Santos, it feels a bit more like jewelery than a watch in some weird way.
I used to feel the same way about the screws on the Santos. These days the randomly set screws of the Santos remind me of the Italian term "Sprezzatura," which is sort of an intentional nonchalance or basically looking good, but as though you didn't spend hours overthinking your what you are wearing. I've seen people photoshop a Santos so all the screws on the bracelet run in the same direction. It some how takes away from the look of the watch, conventional and takes away from the watch. The photo shopped image reminds me of when a guy buys one of those cheap box sets of a necktie, suspenders, and handkerchief in the same design. It's too contrived and boring.

As for the watch feeling more like jewelry than a watch, I think their skills in the jewelry business are really an asset. They understand how to make bracelets. Cartier watch bracelets are some of the most comfortable that I've ever worn, often far more comfortable than what are offered by some brands that are perhaps considered exclusively watch brands.

On cartier 3D view of Santos the screws are aligned and to my eye it looks really weird:

It does not work at all compared to randomized screws

The Santos was the first men's wristwatch as well as the first pilot's watch. It's a classic icon that has stood the test of time and is well suited in any collection.

In my opinion these wear better in a smaller size. I have the medium and absolutely love it, very versatile especially with the quick change strap system

I really like the Cartier Tank and Santos a lot, but not quite enough to actually get one. Great watches, no doubt. Just not for me…

Cartier tank is so classic. Should be part of every collection

That does indeed look very very odd.

Turns out Hublot knew what they were doing all along

Would love me one of these.

I always laugh when I remember Panerai priced their 42mm bronzo (which is another watch I think looks great) at about the same amount.
