Good Day from a New Member

Hi Folks,

I grew up in a Rolex family and own a few of them by virtue of gifts. Some may think me a silver-spooned Rolex guy but I appreciate the fact that my father had to buy his first Rolex in pieces: The watch itself first, and the bracelet when he had the money. This was over 40 years ago.

That particular Day-Date is treasured because it reminds me of how my family got started.

Despite growing up around them, I don't know much about Rolex watches and have only recently started learning about them. I am sure I will learn a great deal from the forum members.

Hi Timascus,

Beautiful first post...very sentimental. A big welcome to TRF. You certainly will get to learn a lot from many of these members here who can be very helpful.

Try and post some pics of your watches. We'd love to have a peek!

Cheers - JJ

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll post some photos after the holidays. I'm hoping Santa will bring me a new digital camera.

Welcome to TRF, Tim. Great story about watches you will always treasure.

Glad you found our merry madhouse. Keep posting and do post a pic after Santa leaves. I assume you've been a good boy this year to deserve the goodies you want.

No Ed the lawyer, he wrote NEW digital camera. This can mean two things: a. he doesn't want Santa to bring him an old camera or b. he already has a camera and that would be old compared to the (new) one he hopes Santa will bring him. Am I clear now?

Clear as mud. The third option is: he does not presently own a digital camera and he is hoping for a NIB digital camera as his first one.
Take the blinders off, pal. Consider ALL your options.

Yes, option a. As I said, he doesn't want Santa to bring him an old camera Is there an opening at you office Ed? I can start as a gofer and work my way up to a full partner (In a week or so).

Did it ever occur to you that we may be talking past each other and neither one of us understands what the other is saying? What a question. Of course that would never occur to you.

You started with a presumption that he already owns a digital camera. I made no such presumption. That is only one of the possibilities. Another possibility is that he does not currently own a digital camera and would like a NIB one. I do not beleive you considered that possibility initially.

Before we had colour TV sets we called TV’s just that, TV’s. Not black-and-white TV’s, just TV’s. It was after the introduction of colour TV’s that people started to make the distinction. Our witness clearly stated that he wants a NEW camera. See the distinction? New vs. used, or old? If he doesn’t own a camera now, he would just ask for a camera. Not new, not old, just a camera. With the use of the word NEW, a distinction is made. So I stick to my first answer. (What a load of bollocks)

See, now I'm guilty of presuming. I presumed you were commenting on your last response. Was I wrong? Methinks not.
