JLC or Parmigiani?

Hello,

What would you guys go for? Assuming both watches are around the same price retail.

A JLC master ultra thin moon in steel.....

Or

The Tonda 1950 in steel?

I'm a bit torn as to go with JLC that has tradition and watchmaking legacy but a rather pedestrian movement finish, or a new-ish manufacture but has what I consider a more finely finished stunning micro rotor movement.

Thoughts?

I should say I have had 3 JLC's before and always kind of felt in terms of the high end when comparing to Pateks or Vacherons etc, close but no cigar.

Do a bit of research on who Michel Parmigiani is, then your dilemma should be easy to resolve.

Here's a starter – https://www.escapementmagazine.com/a...fleurier.html/

I like Parmigiani and see his brand as slightly more exclusive than JLC. Would I buy one? Only at a great discount.

Hi,

To confuse matters even more, I tried on a Glashutte Senator Excellence today alongside a steel Tonda and the Senator really grabbed me! A very nice watch.

All solid choices. I don’t think there is a ‘better’ timepiece here. Consider the style, how it wears on your wrist, etc to make your decision.
When I had to decide between the GO PML and the JLC MUT I went for the GO because I felt more in tune with it.

Between these two models, I'd go JLC for sure.

Not sure exactly which models you looked at but this thread needs desperately some pictures!!!

Photographs randomly downloaded from the Internet.

Having owned a JLC MUT Moon in silver, I will say that I found it hard to read the time. The silver hands blend in with the face and in the wrong light , it is difficult to see.

You would not have that problem with the more expensive gold watch of the same model.

I traded mine in towards a Patek Calatrava.

I like the JLC, but I don't love it. Really well designed and fantastic brand, but there's something a little meh about it.

I still might pick up it one day, because of the great value, but it would never be my favorite piece.

I once traded a Parmigiani for a jlc.. a kappa alpha for a reverso. The best, most lopsided trade,I ever made. In my favor. There’s absolutely no comparison between jlc and Parmigiani. I’m in favor of jlc .. just my penny. I don’t offer “two cents “ because it’s so tired and cliche.

Respect for MP but the designs flat out don’t move me.

I like the JLC tribute to memovex euro.

I'm one of the few for whom JLC doesn't do too much for, apart from the MUT Moon. I like the GO most of those.

Hi,

I do tend to lean towards the G.O.

It looks amazing on the wrist and probably edges both the PF and the JLC on overall build quality and the movement finish is easily as nice as the Parmigiani and imo better finished than the master moon.

I suspect the JLC will depreciate slower and it’s personally my favourite of the 3. At the risk of being flames the GO is a poor mans Lange and the Tonda too sporty with those hands

I have owned the Parmigiani

It is a beautiful watch, but I found it just too simple for my tastes. I had three versions. Titanium /moon dial, rg/ cream dial, wg/blue dial.
I have also had the simple jlc(sans moon) and found it similar. Bought my son in law the moon version, its a beautiful watch and plenty to look at. Get the JLC. Dont love the glashutte, bigger heavier look.
